I have been hearing more and more about people using colon cleansing products. Is this a new fad or am I just a slow learner? My mom for years has been interested in natural products for healing. She really believes in them and tries her best to get me to listen to her b/c I have liver cancer. But...I got tired of everything natural being shoved at me and I finally just had to be blount and say stop your're driving me nuts here. Leave well enough alone. But back to the colon cleanse. Has anyone personally tried it, does it work, what benefits have you rec'd from it. I don't really know much about it, my mom talks about wanting to try it and she believes it can help people avoid cancer of the colon, etc. What are your thoughts on colon cleansing. Is it worth the exspense?

I have never had a colon cleanse. I have heard many good things about it. I just don't have the confidence to go down that path. I believe it involves drinking a particular fluid & not eating at all. I just couldn't do that, & be constantly running to the toilet.
This is what some info says about the benefits & procedure for colon cleansing:
"Colon cleansing, whether it involves a commercial product such as Colonix, or a natural recipe consists of taking a fiber-shake once a day, gradually working up to 3-5 times a day for 2-4 weeks. People usually do a quick fast beforehand, it's not necessary. During the cleanse it is important not to overeat, and not to consume any junk."

I think its important to not eat any jnk afterwards either - whats the point in cleaning out or systems then filling it again with additives, chemicals, hormones and preservatives? Did you know in places like Italy they eat real foo
Great thorough answer otherwise. I personally think its worth it though a few days of being uncomfortable is worth the disease prevention and other health benefits - the intestines are the basis to the immune system and this can fine tune it, it can jump start your metabolism, and help in other ailments that are a result of having a toxic system - memory, optimal cognitive funtioning, headaches....I wouldn't do it in an office though, more likely to take out everything - including good bacteria and such that we need.

This subject has been coming up a lot lately on Mylot. I am so sorry to hear that you have cancer. I am not a doctor, but I don't think that cleansers are going to do you much good. The body is designed to clean itself out and if it is not doing that properly, nothing in a bottle is going to help.

I have not tried it as of yet, but i am in favor of anyone who wants to get it done. i understand it to be pain free, yet kind of gross if you just so happen to look at the tube sucking the mess out of ya. now i don't know if this helps prvent colon cancer. the only thing that i know that helps to prevent colon cancer is to get your colon tested.

i just heard it to a nutritionist that first in the morning we must eat a fruits like melon, watermelon, or coconut fruit, a watery fruit first, so that it helps to remove toxins in your body, and use a detox machine to remove the toxins in your body, eat a lot of nutritious foods it will help a lot to keep us healthy and strong. try to avoid junks foods and do not eat meat always.

Hi applsofgld,
I'm not exactly sure what you mean by 'colon cleansing' here. Your first respondent mentions a tube being used, but I haven't heard of this before. I personally can't imagine this method being 'painless.' I have had two colonoscopies, for diagnostic purposes, and they were both clear. I was sedated for both of them, so this made them painless. I have heard of 'colon cleansing products,' that you take orally, and they clean you out completely, but have no experience with these. My mother had colon cancer, so I get checked regularly, and have changed some of my eating habits too. I've switched to grain breads, and try to get as much fibre in my diet as possible. This also includes All Bran at times, and other cereals high in fibre, as well as brown rice, and many other things. I wish you all the best with everything. Take Care.

Hi Cancer2005,
I am very touched by your response here, and appreciate your kind words, and + rating. My family has a strong history of cancer, so I 'need' to be checked on a regular basis, as colon cancer is just one of the types. Thanks for sharing this here, and I commend you for your strength and courage, in the face of this foe. Cancer treatments have improved so much over the years, and I wish you all of the best in your treatment and recovery.

Its by no means a new fad. Just look up Ayurveda cleanse on the net. One of my teachers, a docotor of Eastern Medicine highly recommened it in class and I've since done extensive research. I recommend this to you, and then to combine your new knowledge with your intuition to see if its right for you. Its pricey but I feel that the disease prevention and the healthy benefits, weight loss, metabolism rev up, immune system tune up (the intestines are the basis to the immune system) and the clarity of mind and memory are well worth the price. Disease and low quality of life are pricey enough in monetary, energy and day to day life ways, any way I can prevent this is great.
I will be weaning my baby soon and will be doing this. If you have a little money consider a panchakarma cleanse. It includes colon cleansing and other organ cleansing, clean food, yoga and daily massage. .
Good luck.

I have never tried colon cleanse. I can tell you I would not mix traditional medication and heberal medication unless you talk to your doctor. I am a disabled nurse and have seen bad reactions when people use both types of thearpies together and do not tell their doctors.
PLease be carefull. I know a lot of people selling natural medications say they are "natural they do not have side effects and they will not counter react what you are taking". That is not true. Becareful. Good luck to you.
