Do you think cereal is a diet food?

Today I was checking out the nutrition label on our Raisin bran cereal and realized that it might not be as healthy as advertised. You'd think Raisin bran would be healthy. It's bran, after all. But, it turns out that Raisin Bran has lots of sodium, which is not good for someone with high blood pressure. And, lots of sugar.
So, I guess it's not so good for someone on a diet. I'm thinking of switching to plain oatmeal. But, it's so plain. Does anyone know a healthy cereal that might be good for someone on a diet? How's Cheerios for a dieter? Does Special K really work for dieters?

I suggest you eat healthy vegetables instead of Manufactured Cereals... Good luck with the diet and good day!

I never thought of cereal as a diet food. I just think it would be a less fattenng breakfast than something like pancakes or bacon, eggs and toast. There are also some cereals that have less sodium and sugar in them so they would be better for us.

Like many ppl here may know I've been on a diet. In the morning I eat wheaties with SOymilk. I noticed a few years back Wheaties were basically uneatable but I don't know what they did, but it tastes much better. I would love to eat oatmel flavored with maple sugar, or even fruit loops. But as us dieters know, that sugar can't be good when trying to loose weight.
DO you excersise? If you do alot of walking or running you should be able to eat comfortable without having to worry about gaining added weight. Always remember when you cheat at mcdonalds or any fast foos restraunt, try to go for a walk afterwards or immendiately the next morning. Excersising whatever it is, burns calories and should help keep your energy and let you eat some foods you like.

Special K is supposed to be used for someone who wishes to "maintain" their weight, not lose or gain. Cheerios says that the cereal manages to lower cholesterol but I do not know if that is true. A lot of cereal brands can get away with appearing to be healthy since it has fruits, yogurt pieces, oatmeal crumbs, etc. but it is important to read the actual label. I actually am a fan of eating Just Right cereal but it seemed to get a bit boring so I tend to slice strawberries or bananas with my cereal!
