Why does he have to have one? Usually if there is a medical reason like Hypospaduis, then they will put him under. How old is your son?

thanks for both your responses. my son is 7 and cannot pull his foreskin back. we were told that it would rectify its self a few years ago. he has been referred to a specialist and organise a date. i feel so bad and i havent told him for obvious reasons.

At that age I am almost 100% sure they will put him under - there would be no way that he would be able to be awake and have that done.

I suggest you ask the doctor's what they will do. You have the right to know what will happen during the procedure before it happens. You should also find out how long it will take and what the recovery will be before going in for it.

Your little boy will be given anaesthesia by an experienced doctor, which will be injected on the skin surrounding his tots. Then, this will then be cut, the skin only, so no need to worry. Most of the kids I know who have been circumcised say it does not hurt at all, it's like their skin was pricked with a needle. And they even gone through the process without anaesthesia. I have 2 little boys of my own too and my eldest is 9 years old but still has not circumcised since everytime we go to the doctor, his tots will become too small the doctor have a hard time grasping and locating the skin. So we had to postpone it again the next summer.
