The bible is replete with passages telling us about the presence of prophets. If there were prophets during the olden days when there were only a few people , is it not logical that there should be prophets today ? If prophets were important before to warn the people, how much more today ?

The bible mentions several qualifications of prophets - that legitimate prophecy will never deny the Lordship of Jesus, that it will be accepted by other prophets as true, that any predictions made will come to pass. A prophet is not necessarily one who predicts the future, though many do. A prophet is first and foremost the mouthpeice of God - someone who hears what God is saying and tells what they have heard. They are the messengers of God, sent to bring comfort, correction, advise, direction, and sometimes knowledge of the future.
