Feline friends or just cats?

How do you feel about cats? Do you have one? I've recently had to deal with this issue as I shuck out a considerable amount of money (to me!) to improve my cat's health. He was suffering from a bladder obstruction and his kidneys had stopped working, though I didn;t know that until after taking him to a vet. But as I decided at what cost to incur putting him to sleep was an option (and the most affordable or within budget), but it seems this problem is common to male, neutered, overweight cats and would just be a fatal blow to my family, if money was the only thing that kept him from improvement. So we decided to let the vet take over and catherize my poor boy and keep him overnight. This cat has pulled us through the death of my oldest daughter two years ago, learning that my youngest daughter had epilepsy just over a year ago (after her first seziure in which she turned blue!), and supervised me when I lost my grandparents during that same time frame! I feel like how in the world could I have even considered the first option if he was truly a feline friend? So what is your opinion of cats?

Well, maybe I'm just crazy, but I've just spent $500 on a cat that is going to be put up for adoption once she is better and spayed. Of course, some of this expense is because I didn't want her getting the other cats sick, but since she was sick AND having kittens, she ended up at the vets and costing us over $300 just for that! AND we lost all her kittens! This doesn't even come close to what I've spent on some of the other cats in my life, but I was keeping them. However, I went the cheap route with The Doctor, $350 surgery rather than a $2000 visit to A&M in another town, and it turned out to be 100% the right choice since it was a cancerous tumor rather than a malfuctioning gland.

Wow...you are a much better person than myself. For a cat that isn't going to stay with my family, I surely would not pay out $500 for a cancerous cat! The thing that saved my Dobby is that while costly, it was a simeple fix, and one that I hope does not rear its ugly head again. Thanks for your response.

Oh, this cat that's going to be adopted doesn't have cancer, just an Upper Respertory Infection. Fact is, that since we kept her away from the REST of the cats, it probably cost less (at $500) than trying to heal 20+ cats from the URI. And we didn't have to worry about the babies getting it and losing all the rest of them!

Wow to be put into that perspective it makes me feel evil as I am pretty sure that I wouldn't have done it myself. You are to be commended for your efforts! Thanks for your response!

Three cats, that is a lot to have a one time, I think too many pets make your house smell, that is my opinion.

Whew, three cats at a time? My cat demands so much attention that I think if I had any more than him I would be a total wreck as my cat requires more attention that most. He will bite and scratch if not given his "due" attention quick enough. :-)

I used to think cats were too difficult to be with.. Until I had a cat that I got to train. She saved me from a raging bull.. I have the full story on this website: http://urltea.com/1yvv

I love our cat. I've been a dog person for a long time and kind of got away from cats but I do love them and wouldn't trade our Morgana for anything. "COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS" **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

Isn't it funny how us dog folks can cross over to cat people? I have always had a pet, but dogs have been the majority. But now that I have this cat, I think it would traumatize him to have to share affection! :-) Thanks for your response!

I believe that any any animal be it cat, dog, horse, ect. is worth keeping and taking care of. I have several dogs and cats, live on a fixed income so I can understand the delima of the cost of healing a sick animal. But we would find the money for a loved person, what is the difference? We're all Gods creatures, and my pets mean as much to me as my children and grandchildren do. So if a pet can be healed or given a good life regardless of the expense, I would find the money some how to take care of them.

Giving my pets a good life have never included damaging my bank account before, I suppose I am lucky for that. But this little occasion will affect my family until my next paycheck as I depleted my savings account and used bill snd grocery money for this emergency, even though I am sure the power company won't see it as an emergency. :-) Thank you for responding!
