Has anyone read His Dark Materials trilogy (The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, The Amber Spyglass) by Philip Pullman? I actually didn't know that the upcoming movie The Golden Compass is from a book. :) I've seen the previews for the movie version of the first book and it really caught my attention. So I'm thinking of buying the book. Is it worth reading/buying?

I listened to an abridged copy of the second book, The Subtle Knife, a few yrs ago & enjoyed it. It was obviously a 2nd book, but I've got so little time that I've never gone looking for paper or audio copies of his other books.

I hope i can get a copy of their audio book... :) I checked the bookstore already, to check how much 1 book costs... it's a bit pricey. Also... I didn't want the book cover that the bookstore has... they used the one from the movie (and they used the same cover for all 3 books!) If ever I'll see one with a different cover, maybe i'll buy it. :)

I was at Walmart over the weekend and found the trilogy in on copy for $13 (well $12+high change). So, I got it, maybe it'll slide up my reading list to after I finish the trilogy I just started (finished first book of Sat.)

I thought the books were fantastic. they're young adult novels, but once you start looking at all the metaphors and undertones in the books, they're very mature and I enjoyed them a great deal. I would definitely recommend them.
