Linux is a good alternative for windows and the good part of it is that, it is made available at free of cost. There are many variants in linux and some of the famous one's are Red hat, Open Suse, PC Linux OS, Mandriva, Ubuntu etc.. Thought it takes some time to get accustomed with linux for the window's users, it is really good to work with.

Our Laboratory is currently running Linux(Ubuntu-Edubuntu) although I am not the one who installed everything in the computer. Because only little thing I know in Linux. I only used openoffice(processor, spreadsheet or calc, presentation- the powerpoint presentation in microsoft and their free internet, games also. Programming in linux, i am not that good. What I know only to install like apt-get install..... or aptitude install...., nano only a little. Thats it. But some features I am ignorant.

It is good that your company is using ubuntu. That is one of the linux distributions that has got a very good community support. It is good that you have tried open office. Nowadays, the Linux has got a very good GUI (Graphical User Interface). No need to use any commands. I directly jumped to Linux from Windows. I felt that there are many similarities and you will get accustomed within a few days. You can try it directly without installing from a live CD. Good day!

I have heard about Linux but I don't know anyone personally who has used it, I know a few people come into my webpage have it, I am too scared to change things on the computer as it takes me too long to get used to change , a bit slow on the uptake..hahahah

That is fine.. But if you are well versed in using Windows, you can easily get accustomed with Linux also. Because, the linux distributions that are coming nowadays are very user friendly and they have started resembling windows keeping in mind the convenience of the users. Especially the distributions like OpenSuse, PC Linux OS and even Mandriva are very similar only.. There are some special download that are to be made for setting up your multimedia and some other things. But other than that, you get everything that you get in windows. The added advantage is that, each linux distribution has got a good community support which is ready to tackle all your problems..
