What to do with a headache! - cartoon headache

I take so many medications on a daily basis that when I get a headache pills are the last thing I'm looking for. I try everything else first. What seems to work for me is to lay down with a cold pack on the area of the pain and a short nap. When you have a headache what works best for you? Do you have your own ways of getting through it?

It depends on if I have a migraine, a sinus headache or a headache. The only thing that works for migraines is being in a dark room and going to sleep. Sinus headaches I can usually take some sudafed or something and feel alright. regular headaches... all depends. Most of the time I avoid taking stuff. Otherwise I'll just take tylenol or something whatever is around to make it go away. But I don't take medicines so I don't have to worry about much.

Everyone is different and has different physical problems so of course there are going to be more reasones for headaches than we could think of. We also have our own ways of dealing with and getting over them. What works for one may not work for someone else.

There are numerous things that cause headaches. Caffeine, Lights, bad teeth alignment. There are many reasons that someone could get headaches and doctors haven't even found out all the reasons.

I have headaches almost every day and this has been going on for years. I'm so used to them that I can pretty much ignore them unless they're really bad. If they are really bad, I still always try to deal with them first. If it's too much to handle on my own, I'll either lay down or take some medicine for it.

I wear contacts and have my vision checked annually, so I know that that's not it. I've told several doctors about my headaches, but none of them seem to care.

Have you had your eyes checked or a physical to find out why you get so many headaches? I know before I got my glasses I had a lot more than I do now.

Usually when I get a headache and would want to avoid taking medication, I would lie down and put some menthol or those gel for pains and apply and massage on my temple, as it works it releases vapors to soothe pain and I also find sleeping through it works. At least for me.

I've used those gels for pains for a headache also and they seem to work pretty well.

I think your method of putting a cold pack on say the forehead area and lying down for a short nap will help the alleviate the headache. For me, one of my most effective means is to rub some medicated oil on the forehead and resting in bed for a short while like 30 minutes to an hour. Usually the oil will bring relieve, and if necessary, I will apply another time later in the day, and the headache should clear. I am not sure if you have medicated oil in your country, but it is fairly common here and sold in pharmacies and medical halls.

I take either tylenol or motrin depending on which one is working at the time. I'll take tylenol till it stops working then I'll change to motrin till it stops working then I'll switch back to tylenol. However I do use an ice pack as well and if I can, I'll take a short nap. BTW... things at home went from bad to worse.... Yeah, it'll get better.... Damn! When?! I'm so lost in thought that I may be gone for a few days to get a break from everything or just to think. We'll see how I feel come tomorrow. I'm just so overwelmed over it all. Thanks for letting me vent some.... as if you had any choice. LOL Bless you!!

I'm sorry you're having a bad time but I swear....Things DO get better. Not as fast as we want them to but take it from someone with a lot of experience there is light at the end of that long dark tunnel. I'm sorry you may have to be away from mylot for awhile but maybe that's what you need to get yourself together and try to work on things. My thoughts and prayers are with you!

I think for me sleeping helps a lot. I have to sleep it out. Sometimes when I have aches and pains and not getting any sleep I take analgesics and get to nap. And I get up much refreshed.

It depends on what type of headache I have..if its just mild I usually just lay down and wait for it to run its course..a more intense one I'll difuse peppermint essential oil and if its a migraine I have to do various things back and forth until it settles....It also depends WHERE the headache is too now that I think of it....

I've heard that peppermint among other scents is helpful when we have a headache. I often use one of those pillows filled with lavender, rosemary and other natural buds.

Usually when I get a headache its because I have not had enough sleep or because my body is craving for coffee (yup it gets bad LOL). I usually sleep it off first and if that doesn't work, then I have to have coffee. If that doesn't work then its tylenol. Medicine is my last resort too!

I've learned that I get headaches if I don't get that coffee in me too. Talk about an addiction huh?

It depends upon the type of headache, ctry. For the ordinary headaches I will feel fine after a short nap, but sinus or tension headaches are a different matter. I had one of those all day yesterday, and I really felt miserable. I used to get frequent migraine headaches which seem to have disappeared with age, thank God. Those were the mother of all headaches, and I wouldn't wish them on anyone. I think they might be hereditary because I learned that my mother and grandmother before me had them.

For me I think the sinus headaches are the worse and hardest to get rid of. I've been lucky in that I don't get migraine headaches...knock on wood (head!)

Hello! I don't like taking any medicine, if I can avoid it I would. When it comes to headache, if it's just a mild one I would just lie down and have a nap, or rest and i'll be fine. If it's not bearable anymore, I would take some paracetamol tablets and few mins after, i'll be back kicking again..lol! Take care. *smile* ciao! c",)

I get tension headaches and the only thing that works is putting alot of pressure on certain points of my head and face. It hurst alot to do but it feels so much better after. Also I like to lay in a dark, quiet room for a while. Sometimes I do take Tylenol or Advil when it's just a regular headache and that works just fine.

I get migraines all the time and BC powder (or it's generic) is the only thing that helps them. I've tried just about everything else and nothing else works for me. I know, they taste horrible :-)

I have a simple therapy which works well for me for headaches. I simply dissolve a tablet of disprin in water and drink it. This does the trick for me and my headache goes away quickly.

I hardly ever get headaches. If I do, I just take one, or two panadol. A nap is a good idea. Relaxation therapy, via tape may also work too. Deep Breathing: This is a simple relaxation technique. Allow yourself relaxed and breathe deeply through the nose. This will increase oxygen flow to your various organs and you will feel better. Meditation and Yoga: In addition to deep breathing, in this technique you have to speak a mantra in rhythmic order. OM is a universally accepted mantra and following it may prevent the common diseases of throat, lung and chest. Deep breathing helps in oxygen flow. Progressive relaxation: In this relaxation technique, you allow your muscles alternately tense and relaxed, causing exercises of your muscles. This relaxing technique will decrease the stress level and ultimately prevent migraine headache.

I take aspirin when I have a headache, unless I think it is sinus related then I take a decongestant.

It depends on what the headache is from. If it's a caffine headache because I skipped my coffee that day, the only thing that will help is a cup of coffee (or other caffinated beverages). If it's a migraine, I take excedrin migraine and find somewhere dark and quiet to relax until it takes effect. If it's just a regular headache, a couple of ibuprofen knocks it out pretty quickly.
