Are you writing for NaNoWriMo? Can you write a novel in a month?

For those of you who haven't heard of NaNoWriMo, it's a group of more than 90,000 writers all trying to write a 50,000 word novel during the month of November. This is my first time participating...have any of you tried this? Did you succeed? Even if you haven't participated, do you think you could write a novel in a month?

I tried last year and It just didn't happen. That really is a tough thing to do. I definitely won't be participating this year as I'm in school and I'm busy doing school work and the like rather than working on something for fun! I mean I have enough trouble keeping up with mylot sometimes, fortunately I have work to keep up with mylot! ha ha.

Well yeah I plan to do school rather than Nanowrimo. However it's a pretty awesome concept and I wish I would have been able to do it last year, but good luck to you!

Of course I think that you can write a novel in a month. All you need is the inspiration and the time. Of course when writing, discipline is very important, but for most writers, once you´ve started, you can´t stop.

My problem is to find an idea I really like. I did an outline before the contest began, but once I started writing my story, I didn't like it and now I am stuck. I really admire those folks who manage to complete it.

I heard about this on Associated Content as a few of my friends wrote articles about it. I had never heard of it before and won't be participating because I don't think I could do it in one month. Maybe next year I will have the guts to try it out. :)

Maybe I need to read some of those articles. I am woefully behind. Still, I thought I'd give it a try...and I still have some time left.

There is no way I could write a novel in a month. My brain and fingers do not work that fast! I have been working on one novel for a year, now, but very sporadically. I can't seem to discipline myself to write (or do anything) regularly! I tend to go with my mood, which is generally lazy. Write a novel in one month would certainly take some discipline! Good luck with the project. I hope there is some kind of prize or reward for all that work!

I don't seem to be making very good progress. I have very little written so far. I'm in admiration of all the folks who do it, especially with more than 90,000 (including school kids) signed up. I am a moody writer: I only seem to write when I am in the mood, and now I just have to hope that I can get in the mood and quick.

Yes I've heard about this contest, but Holy moly...I do wish you luck with this. But to write an entire 50,000 word novel in one month? I don't think I could do that unless I worked on it 20 hours a day! LOL.

I think it's actually doable.. I was able to finish 21,698 in around 4 days total. :) it's not fiction, but still. if you have an outline of how you want the story to take shape, it's really doable. :)

The idea is to just write the 50,00 words and not self-edit your writing, but that's difficult for me because I've worked for years as an editor. I am not having very much luck, but it's still early in the month. I think if I even get something approaching workable, I will be happy.

Yikes that would be hard not to edit. That's one of the reasons when I do write stories they seems to take forever, cause the self-critic and editor in me is always fixing it up

last year I hit 50,000 on day 19, by day 30 I had 183,000. This year on day 3 I hit 9,031, so I'm doing better than last year. For non-NaNo I have written a complete novel in a week, so I know I can do one in a month

Boy, I am impressed! I'll be lucky to get to 9,000 at the rate I am going.

I guess I need to check this site out, and see if it is something I could do. Sounds like it could be quite interesting, and I Love challenges. But tune could be a factor for me as well. Thanks for making the post about this site.

I hadn't ever heard of it. I don't think I could do it, at least not right now. But I think I will look into it a little bit more. Maybe I can try it next year and actually do it.

I actually heard about it last year and decided to give it a try this year. There are so many people doing it, it's fascinating. They have writing groups in every major city both in the US and abroad. Still, I am not keeping up with the pace yet.

Well, I am trying to do it. But college seems to be plotting against me, like I ended up spending this last weekend on a term paper (4348 words worth) instead of the novel. And yesterday, I was so fried from the term paper that I got only 345 words done, which is better than I thought I would do considering how I felt. I am fairly sure I could do it if I was allowed to just focus on it, rather than being forced to do fifteen things all at once. http://morgandrake.blogspot.com/

Well, I did sign up for it. But I really want/need to concentrate on the novel I was already in progress in before November began. This is kind of against the rules, so I don't know if it will count. But, luckily, I already have around 50,000 written in the novel I am working on... perhaps I could write 50,000 more for this month? Would that count? Either that, or I was considering trying to start the sequel. I know exactly what is to happen, but I feel kind of... presumptuous writing it already. I don't think it's time for that. It's in an entirely different mood, and I think if I switched between them, I would mix that up. So my ultimate conclusion is... I'm just going to try to add another 50,000 words to the story I am already on. I don't care if it doesn't count... it will still make me feel good!

Well, commenting again on my previous thoughts... Thanksgiving break is coming up for me. I don't have that much to do, so I thought I would try to write 50,000 words. I currently have none (other than my previous novel I mentioned), so this would be a binge thing. So, I figured it out... If I were to write 60 words a minute... There are 60 minutes in an hour... so I would write 3600 words an hour. There are 24 hours in a day... so that means if I dedicated an entire day to this, I could write 86400 words. This definitely seems more possible now... If I only wanted 50000 words exactly, it would only take 14 hours. I can so do this! It's now my goal...
