Hello All,
Wow, I can hardly believe that it's already November. Summer's gone, we're half-way through Fall, and Winter's just around the bend. Shoo-ey, where has the year gone?
Anyway, do you look forward to the Winter? If so, what about it excites you?
If not, what about it don't you like?
Thanks! I'm looking forward to your answers.

Although I remember having a bit of fun playing in the snow as a child and being fascinated by the strange and mysterious ice formations, I've actually spent most of my life scheming to get away from winter. It has taken a while, but with sunshine 97% of the year here in the beautiful southwest, I'd say it was worth it. Below is a photo of the view from my window in winter. Enjoy!

Hello Drannhh,
Well, I've attached a photo of our 2006 desert winter. In all fairness, we are in the high desert, so we always get some snow, but 35" over a 24hr. period? Yipes, we were digging out for days. Just to put it into perspective, our truck sits very high off the ground, and all of our pooches are considered large or very large dogs (over 75lbs).
I sure understand your desire to seek warmer winters. Geesh, I lived in Upstate New York for many years. That was enough to drive me to relocate to the Great Southwest.

Sometimes I forget that one needs snow chains when traveling from our place to Flagstaff in the winter. We had been planning to take a week's trip over to Sedona and thereabouts this autumn, but by the time we got back from our summer place in California, it was already too cold up there for me.
Yes, I did think you were pulling my leg, because this past winter there was no snow on our peaks although we have seen it from time to time in the past.

Hey Luna. I hardly think about it. I can only take one day at a time. It is hard to say what kind of winter we will get. It all depends on how the "global warming fan club" votes in my area. lol. It is hard to believe that another year has slipped by so quickly. I am not crazy about winter, but a nice 24" snowfall would be interesting. Haven't had one here since Thanksgiving of 1974. If I get a driving job soon, I might be criss-crossing half the country. So, I could see warm weather one day and cold the next. Take care.

Hello Sigma,
"It all depends on how the "global warming fan club" votes in my area." -- Too funny!
Hey, do ya' think you might end up driving down our way?
Has it really been that long since you've had a 2'snowfall up in your neck of the woods?

Well, I dislike the cold, but I love everything else about winter. I love ice skating, watching the snow fall, white Christmases when we have them, and I can't wait to be able to take my son sledding and build snowmen and make snow angels! Unfortunately, I just have to take the cold with all the wonderful things Winter brings. I can deal!

Hello Dask1221,
Oh my, you do sound enthusiastic for winter. Geesh, I haven't ice-skated in years. That was always a great winter activity. And, I'm not sure that there's anything that compares with sledding and snow-man building.
I'm sure that with your positive attitude that the cold will be no match for the joy you'll have this winter.
Thanks for sharing, Dask1221.

Am I excited about the prospect of winter...not really. We live in Manitoba and our winters can be long, harsh, cold and dark with the short days of sunlight. It is not that I dread winter...but I wouldn't say it is my favorite time of year. I prefer spring, fall and summer over our winter any day.
Most of us up here do not mind winter up until the end of December. I have photos on my profile page after a snowstorm here. It creates a wonderful white blanket and creates a Courier and Ives feel to the holiday season. Manitoba is known as 'Sunny Manitoba' and we do have clear bright days that are lovely even with shorter daylight. There is something very charming about snuggling under a blanket with an open fire and mug of hot chocolate...and getting into a change of wardrobe as well.
So just like most things in life there are pros and cons to many things...and my approach is change what you can...and accept the rest!
Best regards,
Raia

Hello Perspectives,
Yes, I can imagine that it gets pretty chilly in Manitoba.
Mmmm, I'm all warm & fuzzy just remembering Hot Cocoa under a 'woobie' (a blanket or throw), in front of the fire. 'Course, the warm & fuzzies turn markedly colder once outdoors. Yet, you're right: change is part of the process.
There are many advantages and disadvantages to having all four seasons. Of course, my heart goes out to those with health issues that are affected by the colder temps. May they find comfort in Thinsulate, and safety in sure-footed Sorrells. Our families are all back East. So, I truly feel for those who still have bitter cold winters.

I am not lookig forward to winter at all. It hate the cold and I don't like having to put on all the extra clothes so that I don't freeze. And driving in winter sucks. It's so slippery and there are so many people that don't take the extra time to get where they need to go and then cause accidents. I also don't like how the amount of daylight we get is so short.

Honestly,i don't look forward to the winter very much. You know,i am studing in Shenyang,a city in northeast China. It seems that there is just summer and winter here. When you just take off your T-Shirt,you may have to put on your sweater sooner.@_@And the wind here is so strong that you must prepare well before you go out.
But in winter it's really very beautiful. The snow is much heavier than southern China.People like to play snow in the street, and i often play with my friends, even strangers. It's a city that worths visiting in winter.
And wish you have a good time in winter!

Thank you Cindyliu.
It's always nice to receive personal recommendations for vacation ideas. Do you get alot of snow in Shenyang? Or is it more itermittent?
For example: much of the Northeastern United States and Canada are blanketed with snow for most of the winter. The fact that it's present for so long is what makes many Americans and Canadians tire of winter.

Am I excited? LOL NOPE! As much as I love the snow, seeing my kids play in it etc (from the warmth of my home), the bitter cold weather that comes with it in my area does a serious number on my body..The pain I go through in the winter months is horrid and gets worse as the yrs go by unfortunately :-( So no I'm not looking forward to it at all..

Hello Ravenladyj,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on Winter. Yeah, I imagine that far North, the winters get tougher and tougher as we age. 'Course, seeing the kids play is always a great joy!
I wish you warm, toasty fires and thoroughly insulate outerwear.

I truly hate the cold.....but I love thanksgiving and Christmas. So we must have winter, I look for good gloves to keep my hands warm. and its really just my hands that hurt in the cold. Every year there are better gloves, thinner, yet warmer. :)))) So far here in TN we are still in a drought, what should be cold is still tropical. But cold always comes. I hate it.

Not too much about Winter that I enjoy, and the older I get, the worse it gets. I'm ready to hibernate like the Bears and wake up in the Spring, haha!
I only like Fall/Winter because it brings Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and then the New Year. After the New Year, it can go away as far as I'm concerned, and I wish it would. I do like the first Snowfall though if it's pretty. Other than that, give me the smell of fresh Springtime air, buds on the tree's, open windows, and I'm happy!.......take care.

What amazes me about winter is watching my daughter enjoy it. Last year when she 3 we had her 1st real snowfall. She touched it , ate fell over , built a snowman with her father, while I took pictures, and then was rewarded for her efforts with a cup of warm chocolate.
There is a down side never feeling like you will be warm again, slipping on ice, dirty snow, dropping temps, dry itchy skin, etc.
I would go through it all to avoid the bigger ouch. Her disappointment if it doesn't snow.
Children have a way of straightening the priority list.
Cake on Birthdays
Costume and candy for Halloween
Presents for the holidays
SNOW on the ground in winter
The ability to play and enjoy being alive.
If the rest of the world could use the example of a child, the worldwould be a better place.
