Snow is just around the corner with Winter fast approaching. This is my daughter's second Winter but she was too little to enjoy the snow last year. I'm really excited to introduce her to the joys of being able to play in the snow. What ideas do you have for an 18 month old for playing out in the snow? How long do you think they should be outside at one time?

I never got to experience that. I guess the closes thing would be introducing ours to the sand. Enjoy that pretty white stuff! If we ever get anything close, it's always just ICE and you can't much enjoy that.

From my experience - I can tell you that an 18 month in the snow is normally short lived. Unless you "love" the snow - it may really be short lived! LOL! Thinking back though I do think my oldest son really enjoyed being out there and I believe I may have more patience to stay out there with him! Last year my little guy (2) was frozen outside as was I and my 2 bigger ones were playing around with the kids next door so I put my lil guy in the tub (still fully clothed with snow pants, boots, etc. and got a bucket and filled up 1/2 the tub with snow and he was just as happy and I was just as warm.....something to think about!! If I was able to post pictures with my responses - I would but not up to 500 posts yet....

That is so cute! I will definitely have to remember filling something up with snow as an alternative. With it being so cold outside, I know that she won't be able to stay out very long but that time she is out there, I would like to make the best of it. As far as sledding, I really hate that because it's only fun going down hill. lol. I absolutely hate climbing back up to go down again!

i am from asia and i live at the Philippines. it never snows here. but when i was working at japan and it snowed i wasnt fascinated by it. maybe because my body is not used to cold as in very cold weather like that. first time seeing snow is fun and exciting.

My son is 18 months aswell. If it snows here and he wants to go and play in the snow. I'd let him and keep an eye on that he doesnt get cold and just make sure hes wearing thick layers of clothes. He doesn't usually get cold very easily so i'm not sure how long it will be, but i'd just keep an eye on how warm he is and he'll be ok. ~Joeys wife

My daughter now 4 experienced her 1st snow last year. It was awesome. We flipped down in the snow and showed her how to make snow angels. Made a snow ball and kept in the freezer for a bit. For an 18 mo old I'd start with 15 minutes depending on temp. They lose body heat fast so just be careful you should do fine

Thank you for your response! That's what I was thinking, 15-20 minutes unless she wants to come inside before that. I was thinking about snow angels.. it's something simple. Then, I was also thinking about catching snowflakes on your tongue. That's fun no matter how old you are! :-) That's one of the things I love about having kids, it gives you a reason to be one yourself!
