Are cats and dogs friends or enemies only? We had cat and dog but they hated each other. However I have seen lots of pictures of cats and dogs together as friends. What do you think?

Hhhmmm, I would say.. somewhat like that but not exactly. My experience is somewhat similar to the movie "Garfield". My very first pet was a cat and I love him so much. On my 22nd birthday, my ex-boyfriend gave me a dog as a gift. At first, my cat and new dog eat and sleeps together. That is really somewhat weird huh. But after several weeks, they couldn't live together under one roof. They always fight! I know it is really very sad but I need to give up one of them so to attain peace and order in the household. I gave my cat to my aunt who is a cat lover too and have my dog as my buddy till now. Well, for me, dogs and cats could hardly be friends. Maybe in some cases they could be, but most of the times, they can't!

Oh cats and dogs are enemies...def. lol. But we own 2 dogs and 7 cats. We used to have 4 dogs and 7 cats. They don't have to like eachother to live together :) The cat just needs her space from the dog, and if he doenst' give it to her, she will teach him REAL FAST :)

My cat used to sleep with my wolfdog. Voden would dig holes under his pen just to let the cat in. Macha doesn't care for the cat as much, especially if he's near her foodbowl. She does tolerate him however. They were all taught from the begining that they were all part of the pack & that's how it's been.

Well I have 2 dogs and 2 cats and they get along great, but in the begining it was easy. I think it depends on the personality of the dog and or cat. But i do know they can exsits together and become friends because my have.

Believe it or not most dogs and cats get along if in a loving home. I've had dogs and cats all my life and never had any trouble with any of them not getting along, I have pup now that likes to chase the cats but its only in fun, they wouldn't hurt each othe and haven't.

Our dog and cat love each other. They play together and even sleep together sometimes.

Absolutely. When I was a kid we had a dog, she was a full grown dog. We got a kitten and the dog nurtured him. The kitten grew up loving the dog. The dog I have now wants to cuddle with the cats, but the cats were adults when we got the dog, they're set in their ways so they're having none of that. But I've seen it first hand, dogs and cats can get along great and be friends. Cuddle together. I have a picture somewhere of my old dog and cat curled up together on a beanbag chair.

My friend has two border collie dogs and a cat. Both of the dogs treat the cat with complete respect lol they are both very playful dogs but if they want to play with the cat and start to run at it, it starts to hiss and arches its back and doesn't run they stop running at it and don't know what to do lol. When the dogs are inside and lyeing on their chairs if the cat comes in and wants to lye on the chair then the dogs will jump off lol I think there is a lesson for every cat here not to run from dogs as it is their instinct to chase things that run away, if cats stand their ground then the dogs get confused. They will get bored if the cats don't run and go and do something else :P

I have never had a problem with my cats and dogs getting along. On some occasions the dog would chase the cat or visa versa but it was usually in play. They would sleep together on the couch or in my bed at night.

I currently have 4 inside dogs and two cats. The cats came first. Believe it or not, my oldest cat tried to be a mommy to 3 of the pups when I brought them home. This was at different times. I agree that it depends on the animal themselves. They have personalities just as humans do.

We have a cat and he is the boss of our two dogs! The dogs go around him. It's funny to see two big dogs afraid of a little cat :)

A lot of it depends on the personalities of the animals involved. I have a dog and a cat who get along, but they do not "play" together. The cat is much older than the dog and tolerates him very well, but if the dog gets too hyper, the cat either runs away or bats the dog with his claws to make him leave him alone. However, if the dog sees a strange cat outside, he will chase him and bark at him, even though he never does this to "his" cat. So, I guess he has just learned the rules of the house, not that he actually likes cats.

Well, we have 20+ cats and 3 dogs. The one dog is helping us keep the kittens clean. Taj also got his first bath from this dog. And she helped us with Oliver too a couple of years ago. But she's not quite sure what to do with Booboo who grew up with a dog & really wants to play with her. She acts like Taj is her kitty, but this other cat wanting to play kind of confuses her. The other dogs pretty much leave the cats alone. Besides, Booboo, the rest of the cats are not too impressed with dogs.

Well, I sure hope that ours will. I just got my youngest child a cat and we already have a small dog and so far it isn't looking like they will get along but I hope that I can work with them and get them to be good together.

Although most people think that cats and dogs are enemies. But there is always an exception. I had a dog before, and I have two cats at home. My dog always wanted to please the cats. But my cats were very cool and didn't want to play with the dog. But the lived together and they wouldn't fight for each other.

cats and dogs can live together its all in the matter of how they are introduced to each other. i have had both at the same time and i have never had any problems with them getting along always show the same amount of sharing affection to each one at the same time so there is no resentment or aggression to each other i have 5 cats and that is how i have gotten them all live together in peace is to train them that all of them are important i show no favoritism so it can be achieved just pet the first animal that approaches you and 9 times out of 10 the dog will show up at the same time and just dont show favoritism and the rest is a done deal
