I have tried many antivirus, currently, when I use windows, I use NOD32: it is a light and good antivirus, it usually is in the firsts positions in comparative tests with other antivirus software. But the best you can do is to switch to Linux, like I did. Quite no virus at all.

Eset NOD32 is a very good antivirus. Like andben says, it's light on resources, and one of the best performers on AV-Comparatives. It's a bit on the technical side, just so you're aware. I've tried a few different flavors of Linux, and if I had to recommend one, it would be Ubuntu. The latest version, 7.10 fixed the very issues from the previous version that had been a turnoff for me: requiring manual configuration for WPA wireless networking, and requiring terminal commands to install my printer. Two things that I find particularly annoying are that you have to re-enter the network authentication key every time you boot up, and also you have to start the firewall yourself. I also couldn't find a single application that would play a factory-pressed DVD, which some will find unacceptable. Linux is getting better all the time, and there are still very few malware that exist for the obscure platform. Same thing with Mac OS, but all this is changing. There are malware for both platforms now, and a new Mac Trojan just came out a week ago that changes the DNS. Some people confuse obscurity with security, and this is problematic. If someone writes a keylogger for Firefox that runs on Linux for so much as one session, you could hand over sensitive personal/financial information to a third party without ever knowing it. And I suspect it will be a long time still before cocksure Linux/Mac users stop saying, "Aw, that's never gonna happen to me!" As it were, you can fortify Windows itself against all Web-borne malware. File access permissions have been around ever since Microsoft introduced the New Technology File System (NTFS), yet few people are aware of this, much less how to use it. By locking down the kernel and registry, you can not only prevent drive-by malware from infecting your system, but you can prevent it from ever launching in the first place! Here's how: http://invincible-windows.blogspot.com/ Hope this helps!

I was using Norton, later for no reason, I switched over to AVG. Today I have avasti. All these and much more are freely downloadable from downloads.com Also I was told spyboot is also good. Take a chance. Some of them, you have to pay later if you want to continue that means they are on trial. Some of them free.

if you're looking for a freeware for both anti virus and anti spy, grisoft.com with it's AVG is decent.

i have tried many kinds of antivirus progs over the years but the most effective for me is norton antivirus. these prog has a built in anti-spyware system that prevents hackers to enter the computer system and viruses to change the start-up and program properties. it also has a firewall that secures me from websites that triggers adwares and viruses to infect my pc it is also nice to have free antivirus programs but they lack these features.

If you want to pay for the antivirus software you use,use Norton Antivirus or Norton Security Suite. But if you want free and good antivirus software only then Avast is the best I have used. I have also used AVG free edition but Avast is far better than it.Get it and try it(It comes with 14 months free periode after registration and you can re-register it also after that period).

use Mcafee! Its without a doubt the best, I dont recommend you use Norton because its an absolute nightmare to remove should you want to get rid of it, its also slow and doesnt detect as many viruses as mcafee.
