well its good to have a anti-virus cause virus can be dangerous and who better than me to tell you cause i hav formatted my computer 5 times since August.
its better you get one
many anti virus are there in market like Norton(best data base for virus),Macaffee(most trusted),AVG(most trusted for internet viruses),Avast antivirus(best performer to me)but i am using BIT DEFENDER.

It is an absolute must to have an antivirus program, I have Panda and it keeps telling me when it has destroyed some virus or protected me from scanning - the viruses and trojans and other ugly things on the net can cause big damage in your computer. It could end up costing a lot more than an anti virus program, just to clean an infected computer. So better prevent the damage by investing in a good protection.

You need an anti-virus for several reasons.People can easily get you address and infect you.Friends can get infected and spread it to you.If you download music or videos from sites you aren't familiar with you can get one.
If you don't want to pay for one,go to AVG and get a free one.

it blocks the viruses before they can get contacted with your computer. They are very helpful because viruses are very common. We are using ZoneAlarm. It tells me that it blocks over 500 attempts a day for unknown companies or computers or whatever to get into my computer. You never know.

Yes, an antivirus is essential especially to internet-connected computers. WE can't really gauge the best cause they all have pros and cons. Some are very powerful but eats up a lot of RAM which slows down your computer. There are some that eat only a few RAM but misses some virus while there are also some which eats moderate RAM and detects viruses well.
I also recommend you to pair it up with a good firewall such as Comodo Firewall for maximum security.

I saw a report on the news a few months ago, where they set up a brand new computer without any anti-viris or firewall and plugged it into the internet. Within hours, it had been hacked into, and they won't doing any surfing--this was all just hackers pinging addresses looking for unprotected computers to turn into zombies.
I was not surprised; I lost a computer to a hacker a few years ago.
Quite honestly, unless you use the computer straight from the box, and have absolutely no interaction with anyone else, you need to have anti-viris on your computer. Sad, but true.
