I was just thinking about all the different kinds of dog foods out now and the way their advertised and all the claims that a dog shouldn't be fed human food.
I had a dog who lived to be 14yrs old and was in good health who was fed table scraps quite regularly and we put bacon grease or hamburger grease on his dry food about once a month for his skin and fur which was also quite healthy. We also gave him an egg or two occasionally. He was given regular dog food, didn't have all that fancy stuff back then, and no vitamin supplements like they recommend now.
Why all of a sudden do dogs need special food?
What are your thoughts on this?

I have a miniature dalmation/pitt bull and I feed her alot of scraps but I also mix in dry dog food as well. She hasn't had any problems in the two years we owned her. I don't feed her any type of bones though unless it is a rawhide bone or a doggy biscuit bone because I once had a cat and a dog die because of bones. Do I think they need speical dog foods? I buy what I can afford but I try to get the one with high protein. Right now I have Purina dog chow and she loves it alot it is a treat for her because she doesn't get it often. I don't feed my dog or cat eggs cooked or raw because I am afraid it will make them sick because of salmonella poisoning. But with the dogs foods being recalled the last few months because of poison you never truly know what your getting when you buy the dog food anyhow so sometimes it is good to stick with foods you make yourself so atleast you know what your dog is getting.
