UGH!
I work for a global company. There are many people from many different countries in this office.
I have to tell ya... the locals are the worst!
Granted... I am a receptionist, I work at the front desk... but my desk is NOT community property!
As I am sitting here, people will open the drawers of my desk and look for stuff. Or reach behind me and grab things off my desk!
I swear one of these days I am gonna go to that persons desk and just start going through their stuff while they are sitting there.
What is wrong with these people!??!?!?!?!?!?

They are having "attitude" problem. Sometimes they want to exhibits their 'superior' to the foreign workers that they freely or waived from work ethics and can violate internal administrative rules and regulations.
If the principal of the company reacts on them, they will say its unfair, because of their local superioriority.
Anyway being a staff, kissyfacemd, you have to report this rudeness cases to your boss. Your duty to do so, taking revenge is not the best policy as it may exacerbate the worse situation and showing that your mind and attitude just at the same level to them.
Be wise in taking action and show your integrity or you lead them in this matter in helping your boss to settle this case. Any organization there is a management chart, just follow the management flow chart.
I know you can do it, to be a good discipline staff. May peace and success be upon you and happy posting, kissy.
Bye for now.

I have made comments, and given dirty looks. That seems to deter them, for a little while at least.

Wow, this really got me thinking... Right now, yeah I do go through our receptionists desk at work. She's a part-time high-school kid and a lot of our "common" supplies are at her desk. When we've had permanant people up there, I've only gone through the desk to find things I knew were there if the person wasn't around. Like the address stamp or something. Our entire office has only 2 people in it besides the receptionist - me and the owner.
I did start thinking about the last place I worked where the receptionst had her own space and I don't know that I ever just started going through her drawers and cabinets... I had no clue where she kept antying so it was easier to ask for something that I needed and knew she had. Since she was full-time and there every day, that was her space and I don't think anyone else had a right to go through it.

This is very bad.
I think they are taking advantage of you or are teasing you.
Is there any reason for it that they just don't like you without any reason or you don't mix up with them?
Try to mix up with them and find out the problem.

Nope, there are just too many people there. Some have been there for years, so they seem to think they own the place.
The newbies know better though.

i know how you feel! i too am a receptionist in a very small company and i get a lot of stuff dumped on my desk because there are in/out boxes right beside them (they are hot files that are attached to the desk.)
Every day is a new adventure! But at my hubby's work (which is owned by one guy) the owner goes through EVERYONE'S desk and eats their food!!!

I know the feeling. I keep tea and granola at my desk.
While on a two week vacation people helped themselves!
By the time I came back, there were two bags of tea left.
All the granola was gone!
Bleh! People suck!

Fortunately the company I work for is owned by my husband and I so I rarely have to deal with rudeness from the other employees. But, my desk is MY desk, even though it is located in our home! I can't stand when my husband or kids start digging through the drawers. I have everything right where I like it and so I can reach for it when I am on the phone with a customer. I've seriously considered putting locks on the drawers!

Maybe you could rig up a padlock to put on the drawers?

Gosh! Locks would be great!
Oh wait! We do have locks! We just don't have the keys that go along with them!
My bad!
