Remembering My Grandfather

I do not have a lot of memories of my grandfather because he was apart from my grandmother from the earliest time I can remember. That's not to say he wasn't in our lives to some degree, however. My impression of him is that he was a quiet, hard-working man who liked to take a drink sometimes. I went to live in another state at a young age, but I'll never forget how he would always come to see me when I returned for a visit. There were several of us grandkids, and he would give us all money to go and buy candy at the store. He died when I was 20. I have one brother who looks very much like "the old man" the older he gets. I really wish I had gotten to know him better. I have a nice photo of him and I also have one of my great-grandfather whom I never got to meet. Do you have a relative that you wish you could have known better?

I've never met my paternal grandfather except once. My grandparents separated before I was born. I've heard lots of stories about him from my dad and other relatives. I wish I could have met him and got to know him. From what I've heard, we would have got on quite well but we lost him before I could try and get to know him.

I know how sad that must make you, SViswan, but if you believe in an afterlife, you will all be reunited one day.

I think that's great, ruby! Learn all you can from him.

I have a really old photo of my grandfather as a young man, and I look at my nephew and see the same person, it is so cool. I cannot say that there is anyone I would have wanted to know better. It seems I got to know the nicer ones of my relatives.

That should make you very happy, GG, because I feel that you have to know where you come from in order to know where you are going. Family has always meant a lot to me.

Yes, my grandparents. I wish I had time to really get to know them too. I barely heard from them. We live far from them and even on vacations it isn't enough to grab a chance.
Well, it's not late for me and I can always choose to lay my time.

You should make the effort to get to know them better, jeanniemay, because none of us know what tomorrow will bring.
