Alex and his confusing character

I am not sure if it is just me or some other viewers are confused as well about Alex's character. Last season, Alex kind of evolved from being a jack-a** into someone who could actually consider other people's feelings. They showed him to be sensitive and someone you could like and actually love. But then the episode last night got me really puzzled. The scene where he revealed that George was a repeater in his internship surprised me. I thought Alex has changed. Why then did he behave that way? Anyone care to explain? Thanks!

I liked how his character evolved from the first season to the second. But in that particular episode in this season, it's like alex is evolving backwards. LOL!

i've got to tell you that alex is probably my favorite character... why? because i can recognize myself when i see him... i will never tell bull to someone that wants honest truth...
and yes he has evolved, probably from all the work at the baby section...

Indeed Alex has evolved and I really appreciate how his personality improved in the last season. But in that last episode I saw, he was back to his uncaring self. There is nothing wrong with telling the truth but then did he have to embarass George? He could've talked to George privately and tell him to tell the truth.
