What was the original name given to the first microwave?

Some of you who are a bit younger than I am might possibly think microwaves have been around for a long time. Actually that's not true. I hardly use our microwave (it was a gift--had to take it--with gratitude, of course). I do most of my cooking on the stove or in the oven. My husband is the grill guy. You may wonder why I mention this. It's pertinent, sort of. Can you tell me what the original name for a microwave was?

I think I heard somebody say it was an X-ray, or radiation oven, something like that! I think they were doing somekind of experiment with X-rays when they discovered it!

That's pretty close. Makes you wonder if people would have them in just about every household if they had named it something like that. Thanks for responding! You are the only one so far.
