I heard somewhere today that Blockbuster entertainment was going out of business, is this true? Netflix was named as a business that has hurt blockbuster. I quit renting from Blockbuster years ago b/c they are just too darned exspensive. Movie gallery is also exspensive now, but the only place we have to rent from. But we don't rent as many as we used too. If you can shed some light on this story or know if it is a hoax please let me know.

I haven't heard this news yet, but I wouldn't be surprised. Netflix is taking a lot of slaes away from Blockbuster, even though Blockbuster did the online thing too, to try and save itself. I've stopped renting from blockbuster too, because I've joined Netflix. And I'm sure a lot of other people have done the same. So it wouldn't surprise me in the least if this were true!

According to Wikipedia.com, A source called the Hollywood reporter said that they anounced in June of this year that they would be closing 282 stores by years end. With Netflix.com, cable, and DVD's, I can see how they would be getting rid of some stores. Maybe the ones that don't do as much business. I know most people who really like a movie will just go ahead and purchase their favorites for a good price at Walmart or Target. I was a member of Blockbuster.com in 2003. They always had at least a short waiting list for most of the movies that I wanted to order. My mailman had advised me to switch to Netflix.com. It was much, much better. I do not watch very many movies any more, but if I did, I would much rather go with Netflix.com.

Hey oneandone, I have not seen you around in a while. I guess the rent a movie in the store plan is good for those who drive, but it would not be worth it to me. I need just the online plan and like I said, Blockbusters movies are rarely ever available.

I don't care for Blockbuster. I much prefer netflix as they have a "watch now" feature to instantly watch movies on my PC.

I'm not surprised that Blockbuster is going out of business. The selection in the store is not that good, and it's expensive too. I tried blockbuster online for a while, but it was nowhere as good as netflix. The movies were also in very bad shape, and some wouldn't play. Netflix just reduced their monthly fee a couple of months ago, so I'll stick with them for now. They also have movies that you can download to watch instantly.

I hope they are. I don't like the way they censor what movies they carry. If I want to see a movie that is my right, they don't need to be my mommy and keep an eye on what I am renting. Our local movie gallery went under a month or so ago so on the rare occasion that I do rent I go to our little local store. Boo Blockbuster!

Haven't heard anything on this as of yet, but with the prices Blockbuster charges, I wouldn't doubt it a bit! Netflix is cheap and fast and you can keep the movies as long as you want without a late fee. I have used Netflix before and was never disappointed, but with Blockbuster, don't dare be a minute late with those movies! Whew....you wanna talk about late fees....anyhow, I can believe they are going bankrupt.
