Poverty Alleviation

There are many NGO's that are working in India with the objective of alleviating the poverty. Many claim that they impact the lives of poor through their work. I would like to have the comments on this as I think that poverty is strictly a comparative term and it is never going to be uprooted. But, there is a way for addressing the absolute poverty where the person does not enjoy the adequate basic necessities of life like food, health and shelter. We come across many persons who have got struck through the absolute poverty. I have come across a few organisations that work for the betterment of the lives of the poor through micro finance or micro credit. But, we should not forget that there are still poor who are not able to get benefited by any of these NGO's. Is there any way out for them? My experiences are mostly from the Indian context.

You know, in almost any country, NGOs performs more than the government. this kind of problem is supposed to be the great responsibility of the government, its not purely of the NGOs. If we are going to look at the problem deeper, the main cause is corruption. corruption will never alleviate poverty, it will just burden the problem. NGOs canot provide all the time and all the poor families. if only public official are not corrupt, then maybe alleviation of poverty will realized. but sad to say we can never stop corruption, its a disease that cannot be treated.

you are true that only Government can alleviate poverty in an effective manner as many things will not work in this world without the political will. All the services of the government cannot be offered by the NGO or any other similar institutions. As you said, corruption has become a disease of the nation and of the individual which is getting many into the traps of poverty.
