Do you have both Dogs *and* Cats?

only have a dog (a lhasa apso)... our neighbors have cats but they seem to dislike our dog even if our dog seems to like them (and wants to play with them)..

Yes I have both cats and dogs. They wouldn't get along with one another though. Well the cats get along with each most of the time. They get jealous at of the other at times but mostly they're good. But the cats wouldn't get along with our dog. But she's an outside dog anyway and the cats stay inside.

Currently I only have cats; but, I have had both dogs and cats at the same time before with no major problems. A lot of it has to do with how the animals were raised and how they are introduced to each other. Most of them will learn to behave and get along; but, some animals are just born mean (not specific breeds). Just like people, some animals seem like they are born with a "grumpy" gene or a "mean" gene. Since you said the one dog has a "bad record" with both cats and puppies - it sounds like he is a natural "bully" and feels threatened by smaller (cuter) animals. I would not trust him alone with them for quite a while.

I have two cats and two dogs..they all get along together loveley..There has never been an issue about them being together at all...

We have 3 dogs in the household as well as the cats. Most of the cats ignore the dogs, and the dogs pretty much have learned to avoid the cats, because if they piss them off the cats will scratch and then THEY (the dog) will get yelled at. But Booboo likes the dogs and wants to play with them, the dogs don't quite know what to do with him!

We can only have a dog. Our youngest has asthma, and an allergy to cats too that sets it off. So unfortunately we cant have one. :-)
