Is anyone willing to share? here is the one that i have:
I know someone who had the world promised to her from one gent she met on a Christian chat (they did not talk on the phone, which is in my opinion mistake # 1), but they became more than friends, supposedly even talked about marriage. It started to fall apart when she and a friend took a road trip down to see him and his pal (the other girl and the pal of his had hit it off as well), to make a long story short, POOF; it seems that neither of these guys exists!
anyone else got a story?

Ok, personally, the worse horror story I experienced first hand was the year I met Hubby (2000). It was about 6 months prior to meeting him and a neighbor friend asked me if I'd like to meet a friend of hers who was an ex-wrestler but he was a big teddy bear. I told her I guess so as long as she was there. I talked to him a couple of times and met him and he seemed nice enough...funny, fun to be around, ect. Now, this is sneaky of me but I had several friends online that were police officers and I asked one of them to run his name through and see if anything popped up. Well, wasn't I surprised?? This nice, funny, big teddy bear had 23 FELONY ASSULT CHARGES AGAINST HIM!! Turned out he got in a fight with his dad and when the police were called it turned into a brawl and he beat up several police officers in the process. He was furious that I looked him up and we had a big argument over it. I never did talk to him again and I was ticked at the neighbor friend that set it up.
I have always run ppl through police friends to kind of check them out before meeting them. I did it with Hubby. He didn't know about it at the time but I told him later. I'd rather be safe then sorry. I don't do it anymore b/c I don't meet anyone from online anymore.
When I first got online I saw several news stories about a woman that met a man online and when she tried to break it off she found a human head on her front porch as a gift to her from him, a girl that ran away and they found her and several other women in steal drums in a guys backyard and recently there was the woman who befriended another woman online, invited her to her home to look at some AKC puppies she was selling and the woman killed her and cut her unborn baby out of her while her 2 year old son watched.
To say that you need to be careful online is the understatement of the year.

My aunt met her husband on the Internet. They got to talking and found out that they lived in the same area and had similar jobs. They dated for about a year and a half and got married last month. Oh, by the way, he's my age, 29 and she's 35 (we have always been more like sisters than aunt/niece lol)
It just goes to show that some Internet relationships do work out. :)

I have an internet dating tip for you: DON'T! I know that a lot of people swear by this, but I just don't see how people can do it. I mean, you are dating a person, sight unseen, because a person could put any picture up as an avatar, you know? And without having the living, breathing person right in your face, you can't guage how the person really is, you know? I mean, you never know if you are talking to a stalker, a rapist, a murderer, or otherwise crazy person. I know its up to the person, but I for one will never date a person I met on the internet, or on a phone date line for that matter.

in the philippines, there is this dating site called friendster. it's similar to my space. filipinos log on there as much as they can. i've heard a lot of stories about those who met up or "eyeballed." this is what gay guys do to receive money from foreigner guys: they post a picture of an attractive girl so that they can get connected to the foreigner guy. once he has baited him, he, posing as a she, will tell him that,"i need money because my grandfather is in the hospital and is in danger." so the foreigner sends money to the gay person. it was recounted to me at a gay pride parade i attended in the philippines. as for internet horror stories, i heard of an ex-girlfriend of a friend of a friend who met up with a guy in friendster. it's very unfortunate that the girl got raped by the guy in the jeepney. what a creep! goes to show that cyber-dating is not really safe. we girls must always be careful.
