Do you think Santa's belly is a bad influence to children?

I don't but, it was just on the news. I won't mention the name of the country but, they want to slim down Santa because they think he is a bad influence on children. What do you think? I think it's insane! How could he be Santa if he isn't fat and jolly?

And if they slim him down, other people will complain that he's a bad influence and sending the message that people have to be thin to be accepted. There will be outcries from people who will think that this will lead children (and adults probably) to have eating disorders and over exercise to lose weight "like Santa did".
There is no way to make both sides happy. People just need to accept that every person is different and has a different opinion on what 'healthy' is...and that certain traditions should be left alone!

Thanks ciniful!
girlgonefishing-You are so right about the genetics, I'm on the opposite side as Santa on the weight issue but it's not my fault. I've had people harp on me and get downright nasty about me being so small. Yet if they saw my mom, my sisters, several aunts, and most of my female cousins, they'd realize that I'M one of the bigger ones!
Young children (and some adults) don't SEE what their love ones look like. Sure they know Santa is round, just like you knew your aunt was, but that isn't how they define the person. They look past that to the personality and heart of the person they love without giving much thought to the body it comes in. (I didn't even think of my oldest daughter as "overweight" or close to it until I got that nasty not from the school saying she was, she's never been skinny but compared to the tiny women in the family I just thought she was filled out and healthy)

I just now thought I didn't really make my point. My point was, if Santa wasn't fat and jolly, I myself would never feel comfortable going and sitting on his lap and telling him what a good girl I had been all year :-). And YES, I DO still go sit on his lap! He comes to our neighborhood fire station every year and I never miss him.

I think everyone should leave Santa alone!!! How can he be a bad influence on kids? Yeah he is fat but that's Santa, he wears a red suit to but it doesn't make kids have a bad dress sense now does it!!? lol
Over here in Australia they also want to stop him from saying 'ho ho ho' as it could be seen as an insult to women! They want him to say 'ha ha ha'!!
I mean everytime I hear him say 'ho ho ho' I always think hey is he having a go at me, and give him daggers?! NOT!!!!!!!lol
Now instead I will think he is laughing at me!!lol
I don't think it will end up changing I hope cos the response it got was mostly let him say ho ho ho, I mean why not go the whole hog and make him skinny, say ha ha ha and wear a suit and tie, and while he is at it have a shave!!!
Those who think Santa is a bad influence on children need to take a good look around at the rest of society, geez, leave Santa the way he is I say!!!
I'm with you girlgonefishing I think it's insane!!

You would love it here too, I live in a small country town, short drive to creeks(no water at moment) with big gum trees, no hussle and bussle of a city!! I like the pace, I am not one for going out much either, I prefer my own home, and I'm not a 'crowd' person!
No probs with the Santa thing, you'd have to be insane to think a thin Santa saying ha ha ha was a good thing!!
My friend has a farm which is even more quiet and remote about 10 minutes out of town, except maybe for the animal and kid sounds it's peaceful!

okay..this officially made me mad. It seems like the world is coming to an end with all this controversy over NOTHING. It seems like no matter what it is..theres always something wrong with everything. Whats next.. old people are bad influences? Healthy skinny people are bad influences..people of different races are bad influences? Its getting rediculous and going way to far. It seems like these days no matter what you do..your doing something wrong.. and its pretty sad that something so little and trivial like santas BELLY is causing up trouble. Common.

Its just rediculous. We have lived with this santa figure all our lives and now..for no reason..out of no where..hes suddenly a bad influence. Im pretty sure people arent dumb enough to look at santa then do something stupid cause hes a bad influence..and even then..what are they gonna do..eat more food? SO WHAT. Eesh.. its just rediculous. I think people are just bored and finding reasons to complain about nothing..just because they can. Cause honestly..who cares? Why is everyone focussing their attention on such pointless things when there are real issues out there.

Ticked me off too. I said some really bad words out loud and had to say I was sorry to my kids. :-) I like your last statement....common. That's just it, things like this are starting to be common. That's what makes it so sad. It's like we are going backwards instead of forward.

Some people just need to get a life seriously. I saw this and I thought to myself, oh come on now. This is just getting more and more ridiculous. I don't see how he's such a bad influence on kids. I never saw it as that at all. Whoever complains about stuff like this needs to get out in the sun and quit getting so bitter because they never had a good life at all.

I agree right there. If people wouldn't feel be so bitter all the time, the world would probably be a better place. What are they going to complain about next? Here's one, next thing you know they'll say they're offended by Thanksgiving, that's what it seems like.

Hey there babostwick. Glad you saw it too. I love your reference to getting out in the sun. I think everyone should get out in the sun more. I get out in the sun every single day and work really hard for at least two hours trying to improve my land. I always work up a really good sweat. This always makes me feel really good about myself and the things around me. Maybe if more people felt good about themself and the things around them, the world would be a better place.

I think its a crazy idea. It is like saying lets make a statue of liberty that is male to prevent sexiests. Santa should be fat because the cookies kids put out is eaten by him. Of course santa's belly is gonna get big.

Ok. So what are they gonna change The Night Before Christmas around too? Because:
"He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook, when he laughed like a bowlful of jelly.
He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself;"
If they thin him down that poem won't really work will it?
And I think Santa's belly is a good lesson to children.
The lessoned learned is:
"If all you do is go around eating cookies, you'll get a big belly like Santa!"
ha ha.

I personally don't think that "children" are thinking this up on their own. I think that people just come up with this stuff and say children say it or believe it cause if you use "children" as a "call sign" you'll get more attention. I am sorry, but I don't think to many children say "I want to be fat like Santa". I don't think kids think to much about Santa other than November till christmas day. After 12/25 I don't think they think much him through the year. Adults do and ones that just want to stur up stuff. Let the kids with an imagination!

I totally agree. Adults are the ones who start this crap. If kids got to vote, I'm positive they would want the fat, jolly Santa.

because they cannot control their children, they are blaming Santa. well children are also nasty, if their parents will ask them to go to gym they would say, Santa is also fat. but slim Santa will not look that great and belly, its really insane.

This is insanity and nothing else. Its a way to gain some cheap popularity. I don't think that Santa could leave a bad shadow on the kids only because he is not in shape. There are some people in this world who do not have any job at all and search for the black cat in a dark room which is not there!!

Some people are just to into worrying about nothing. I can see Santa saying something like "it's okay if I eat lots of cookies because I'm magic, but if you want to end up on the good list- and I know you do- be sure to eat your fruits and veggies." That's how you get Santa to influence kids to eat better, not by putting him on a diet.

i dont think santa want to influence children ...here are few questions for your ...have you ever met anyone who gives you gift to influence you...i think nobody gives gift just to influec people but some people think so....as far as santa is concerned he never want to influence any one specially children ....its old times story which states that santa loves children thats why he gives gift to children..this is the only thing not more that that. what do you think m i right or wrong ?
