Do you remember to turn off lights that you are not using. I try to keep lights off in rooms that I am not actively using so not to waste our natural resources. My kids however do not turn off lights after themselves and it drives me up the wall that every light in the house has to be on when they are here. Do you try to conserve energy by turning off lights that you don't really need on?

I turn of a light as soon as I leave a room if I know it will be more than a few minutes before I go back in it. I had it drilled into my head when I was a kid to turn off a light is you were not using it. My son is 7 and he knows he had better turn off the light when he is done with it.

I am always going behind my family turning off lines in bedrooms and bathrooms they leave on. I tell them to turn them off but the grandkids seem to seldom remember to do it. My son and son in law don't remember or do it either. My husband and daughter though turn them off and we try and not have lights burning in unoccpupied rooms. Outside we have motion sensor lights. I sometimes think they would be a good idea inside as well.

I do turn off lights all the time. I pay our electric bill so I am very aware of what it costs every time a light is on. I am always telling the husband and the kids to turn the lights off when they walk out of a room. I think that kids are not as aware of the impact that one light can make on both the bill and the environment.
We are going to study that as part of a science study as we home school and then I am hoping that they will do better. I am going to offer a reward of a penny each time I see them shut a light off for awhile and see if it helps.

That is wonderful...actually last Easter I visited my daughter in Lincoln Ne. The pastor did a sermon on using the new light bulbs and how if everyone in America just used one as a replacement how much energy it saved. Like enought to light up California for a year or somthing like that...I am going to replace my old bulbs with the new energy efficient one....the are spendy but last up to 10 years!

Since I don't have children living at home I don't really have much of a problem with that. Hubby and I are both pretty conservative when it comes to electricity. We both make a point of turning them off in rooms we are not using. Now if I could get him to close doors and drawers I would have it made. LOL

I do turn off lights as I leave a certain part of the house and make sure all are off when I leave the house. I don't have kids at home any longer but do have a husband who sometimes forgets and leaves them on. I make sure any table lamp is off because we have a cat and all she needs to do is knock it over and there's a potential fire hazard.

Yes i do! I make sure i save electrical energy at home. And besides electricity can be very expensive and it consumes more portion of my budget. I also make sure that i buy and use lower wattage of electricity usage for house appliances and light bulbs.

I must admit that I don't ALWAYS remember to shut off the lights when I leave the room. For the most part, I do turn off the lights as I leave the room but there are a few times that I catch a light on.
Another guilty habit that I've gotten into is falling asleep with the television on but I did set the timer to go off within a hour. So, I guess that I have tried to "right" my wrong! :-)

I'm not sure if it was the same in your city, but for us here in MD BGE made a 50% price increase so our electric bill has been through the roof lately. We always try to turn off lights when we're not using them, or keep the heat not above a certain temperature. But then there's things like computers and radios for some reason that then get turned off, twenty four hours a day. I'd be interested to see how the bill was affected just by turning off our computers every night for a change.

Im from bc and there are so many adds right now for "turn it off". I didnt realize it was that big of an issue, everyone i know does it. When you leave a room, shut off the lights.

All lights inside the house are turned off because I cant sleep with the light turned on. However, I make sure the lights on the front door are open. Sometimes I also keep a small lamp turned on in the living room. This is just in case there is a burglar at night. Having the lights on makes them think twice (if anyone is still up)

hi jill. I feel the same way, too. But not with my 4 year old son, but with my husband! He especially leaves the bathroom light open even when he's done using the facility. I keep reminding him over and over and over gain to turn the light off! He keeps explaining to me that he often forgets to turn the light off. So I posted a special reminder for him to turn off the light at the bathroom door. But what do you know?! He even forgets to close the door, so he doesn't see the sign!Grrrr!!!
Not only do I not turn off the lights when they're not needed. I even plug off the cords of the appliances that are not being used. It's been my regimen to check everything first before going to bed. I turn off the lights and pull the plug off the TV. By doing this, our electricity bill have significantly went lower compared to the previous months.

I'm pretty good at remembering to turn the lights off when I leave a room. My husband on the other hand tends to forget to turn them off. I'm forever after him to turn them off. Why waste energy, it isn't good for the environmnet or for my power bill.

We have a contest to see who can help save the most. Turning off lights, computers and such when not in use is a great way to do this. WE make a game to see how much lower each electric bill will be. Its kind of fun to wait and see and in the meantime turn things off. The kids remind each other and me and I remind them too. :)

To turn off the lights is the habit of a person.Everytime when I am not using I would turn off the lights .As we know our natural resources are limited ,we should not waste them.Sometimes when I saw the lights turn on ,but there was no people ,I know I should turn it off.I still hope everyone can do this naturally.
