I just went through my jet-setter quarter of the year, having visited Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore within a four-month period to visit the churches around the Asean region. Having the opportunity to discover, experience, and learn a lot of unexpected things on the way was indeed worth the time, energy, and money. How often do you travel abroad and was it more for business or for pleasure? What restricts you from traveling abroad more often, money, time, or energy?

I love to travel. I always do it for pleasure these days, however a couple of times in the past I have done it for study and business reasons. My traveling is restricted by money, I have plenty of energy and time available. I have a baby to consider so whilst many of the areas I want to go to are affected by Malaria this is of concern if my baby caught this. I have two dogs so someone needs to care for them whilst I am away traveling. Some years have been excellent for the amount of traveling I have done. In 1993 and 1994 I went to the USA, Fiji, Australia, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Belgium, Spain and Italy. In 2001 and 2002 I went to the USA, French Polynesia, the Cook Islands, New Zealand and Samoa. Your trip round the Asia sounded wonderful. I also find it interesting to visit old churches.

It's been over a decade since you visited Asia, hope you can come over in the near future. If you do, don't forget to visit Taiwan and the Philippines where I probably will still be. I also plan to tour Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam for 2-3 days; then 6 hours bus drive to Phnom Penh, Cambodia and stay for a day; then 12 hours drive to Bangkok, Thailand in 2009. Beijing and Shanghai would be next in line.

I realized that time is not a really factor in travel since we all have the same 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 52 weeks a year, but the responsibilities that we have to take care of that restricts us from being away from home for a day or more. We usually manage to find ways to delegate these responsibilities if we travel for business, but consider them as valid excuses if we travel for pleasure. I think this reason also holds true with money and energy, only that travel for pleasure only has monetary debit but travel for business has also monetary credit.

Thanks for giving me best response. I would love to visit Asia again soon. In 2005 I went to the Maldives and the islands were stunningly beautiful but very expensive. I and sure that I would find Japan very interesting. I think island hopping and snorkeling in the Philippines would be fantastic. Taiwan and Korea must have lots of interesting things to see. I have booked flight to Latvia for next summer. I wish you happy traveling.

i like to explore the places that are no influenced by human activities, and i don't think there are many places remaining. as far as low fair airlines are concerned their services sucks.

Although there is the beauty of untouched nature in unexplored regions, I personally would not venture into them because of the inconvenience and danger that accompanies it. I would rather go to those places that still preserves their naturalness but with the modern conveniences and medical assistance freely available nearby. I definitely agree that services in budget airlines are close to not even getting a free smile. But like taking a regular bus ride, service is not my main concern but getting to my destination at a cheaper price is.

Thank God that budget airlines which offers more than half the regular fare are expanding their routes nowadays. We hope that someday in the near future, monetary constraints will no longer be the main hindering factor for travel.

There are many new restrictions when traveling abroad nowadays. However, since my wife is not local, I will still travel abroad at least once in two months time. LOL!

It's good that there is visa exemption between Southeast Asian countries which saves us a lot of time, energy, and money from preparation of travel documents like birth certificate, bank certificate, authentication certificate from the department of foreign affairs, police clearance, and recent photos, payment of various processing fees, to trips to the embassy, etc.

you should also try philippines catholic churches.. we have lots of spanish churches here... as for the discussion, i only travel abroad once a year... and i prefer southeast asian countries first where countries doesnt require me a visa.. and i always travel for pleasure.. visa is the only thing that prevents me to visit other countries.. :(

Since I also lived in the Philippines, to see catholic cathedrals is not unusual to me as almost each town here has one. I am more interested in meeting new people and tasting new food in my travels. I agree and have the same plans with you would to visit Asean nations first without the travel restrictions. Maybe we can travel together sometime in the future. :)

I try to travel abroad at least once a year, mostly for pleasure. I would love to travel abroad more often but I don't have that much money or time. I can muster up enough energy for travel though, because I really love traveling.

Traveling abroad at least once a year is a good habit. I do hope I can have enough resources to travel also that frequent. Twice or thrice a year is fine for pleasure but every month would be quite stressing especially if it is for business.

I do not go abroad that much unfortunately... but I will be spending next year in a foreign country as an exchange student through Rotary. I think I'm going to Japan... but I also had wanted to go to Thailand. What was your experience there like? I've always wanted to visit Thailand; it seems like such a beautiful place and also the fact that things there are relatively cheap is a bonus.

Food is spicy, weather fair, people nice, beaches beautiful. One of the top tourist destination in Southeast Asia.
