Are you afraid of getting old?

I'm afraid of getting old. I am a teacher and have been popular with my students these years. I think in their eyes, I am more or less an attractive teacher and I have confidence all these years. But as time goes on, as I am getting older and older, I gradually lose my condifence and therefore feel unwilling to get along with my students. I feel frightened and sometimes a little sad. I am used to seeing so many seniors who are knowlegable and derserve our respect teased by students in class or out of class and therefore looked down upon by our headmaster and other colleages just because they are old, just because they look old-fashoned, just because they are not beautiful or handsome or just because they lack so-called sense of humour. Every time I imagine the scene that will happen to me, I feel cold throughout and eager to quit the job. If years are generous enough to offer me wisdom and easiness, maybe I can manage. If not, I , looking peak and pine, maybe a little fat, will stand in front of students, look blankly into the back of the classroom, mutter to myself those I will have repeated thousands of times all my life. What a dull and frightening scene that will be!

I think all of us are afraid of this ultimate end in our lifetime. We can never change the fact that we will really grow old. This is really hard to accept for some. I guess one way of solving our fear of getting old, is not to dwell on it so much. Let us instead focus our attention in our present actions, let us make happy memories that we can leave to our young love ones, experiences that we can cherish and tell to our grand children someday. In this way we can leave our life happily and less of pressure. Who knows, the more we are happy and free of stress and pressure , the more years to live happily in this borrowed lifetime.

Thank you. I agree with what you said. I know I shouldn't dwell on it so much. But you know it's a little hard. But I think I will learn to accept it carmly.

Always remember that beauty is not only in the outside but also in the inside, that it's best to age and be wise than not at all.
It's just a simple thought of acceptance, if you know what is reality then you accept that fact that everything has an end -even us. The best thing to do is, as you grow old, you tend to share everything you learn from your previous and past experiences in life. You can start doing that by sahring a story to your sutdents, as beauty lies within each and everyone of us.

Right now the feeling is not really what I call “afraid”, instead I feel excited because I have lots of things in mind that I could only be doing or happening when I’m old enough. Maybe look of being old scares a bit out of me but that’s not really a big deal for me right now. I’m still a student and I’m so eager to go have a career and do things I still can’t do yet so I’m pretty anxious to add some more years to my age.

I think you just need confidence in yourself. Thinking like that would just hasten you to becoming more older than where you are. I think you are stressing yourself too much about it. Enjoy life more and be confident about yourself no matter what age you are in as long as you feel confident about yourself people will admire you and respect you for who you are. Do not wast your precious time contemplating on things that will make you older. I think you are becoming who you are because you are thinking who you don't like to be in you. Think more of what you like about yourself and soon people will think the same as you are.

I am also a teacher and already old. But i did not fear of getting old. Beacuse i found out that my student become more courteous and respectful with me. And the most important thing is that my student feel very comfortable with my company by asking personal questions about their personal lives. I really love teaching because i love children. This is a commitment i have made in my lifetime. Thanks

If I tell you I am not afraid of getting old, I must be lying. I heard a famous actress, who is also a writer, talking about this issue about herself. She said that everyone is getting old, however, if you keep mentally growing, you do not need to afraid of getting old. I think what she said is turly right.

Nah ... I am not afraid in getting older ... by getting older by outside beauty you will get more internal maturity and internal beuty. for example .. I set a goal for me for a 2 year span and I am trying to achieve the goal !!!
If those 2 years dont spend .. how could you be able to achieve the goal?? and to set a new goal for further achievement?

getting is but a manifestation of your significant progress in this worldly life. no matter what others may think, you still earned that wisdom that cannot be bought or acquired by any form of high education or position in the famous corporate companies. as the old saying goes, wisdom comes with age. be proud of what you are coming to be - the pool of wisdom :) Good day!

Madam,
Please try to accept the reality and the inevitable. For all the humanbeing the"ageing process" is a reality. But, what we sow during our youth will always stand in goodstead during our older days. So, be brave and face the future practising positive approach now and build togetherness of all the people you come across and never to worry about the ageing process. Afterall, beauty is only skindeep. May God bless you and give courage.
Thanks, wish you all the best and have great future,
Saikara,
