Do you think people alive today will live for 1000+ years in the future or not?

Some of you may or may not have heard about Aubrey de Grey but he claims that in the near future, people who are alive today may be able to live for 1000+ years. He claims that ageing is not programmed within us. We are not programmed to age, rather we age because of an accumulation of cellular damage over a period of time.
He claims that there are 7 processes which need to be reversed or prevented in order to stop ageing. Theoretical solutions to these 7 processes also exist, they just need to be put into action. What are your views on this. I have to admit I am a little skeptical about people alive today living to 1000. What do think?

I don't agree that aging isn't programmed into our bodies. Maybe the exact process of aging is not, but nothing is meant to live forever. I honestly believe that's why disease is in the world. At some point our bodies need to shut down to make way for the new bodies that come into the world. I don't know how nature knows to do that, but it makes sense. Eveything has a life cycle. I wouldn't even want to live 1000 years even if I could. That just sounds ridiculous.

i don't believe this is possible , and if it could happen i dont think there will be anybody who wants such a life,
as we all know that ,it is not important that how much we live, but what matters is that how we live, what we live.
what we have to do is that live our life so that we live in millions of people around us, and not to live alone for a long time without having anybody with us...
so done go for Aubrey de grey.....

I don't think that's realistic. As long as people have to work and there's pollution all around us, there will be cellular damage over time.
So perhaps an age of 100 years would be reachable given advances in medicine and lifesaving techniques, but not 1000.

I think it would be wonderful to see (and live) that far into the future. I also think that when it finally came time for me to lay down and rest forever I would be very tired and I'm not convinced I would be nearly as wise as I would be cynical. I hate the notion of dying but I'm not sure that living that long would be such great shakes either.

I do not agree with you that ageing is not prgrammed. Any living organism has to undergo ageing process. Though theoretical solutions are available, the practical future we are seeing with us with regard to ageing process is very clear about ageing process. When we take ourselves or our elders who are now living, the skin and muscles are getting deteriorated when age progress. What we are not able to see inside the human i.e. Organs, do undergo ageing process which I am sure you would have seen or heard. So, theory of living 1000+years plus is only going to stand as a theory.

Ok lets suppose a cure was found and everyone stopped dieing of old age today.............. there are already 40,000 people dieing of starvation every day in this world. Each day there would be an added number starving. In a very short time crowded living conditions would cause worldwide outbreaks of hundreds of different diseases which are managed quite well in todays world, but would be out of control in a more crowded world. The world supply of water would be stretched to the limits within a very few years. The added number of the old and infirm, would fill Nursing Homes and Hospitals, and the working class would not get medical care. Within a hundred years there would not be enough space on earth for everyone to stand up. Those standing on the ground would have people standing on their heads. People would soon have be stacked like cordwood and piled, against every available wall. Now let me ask you," Do you really think this would be a good idea?"

Living for 1000 years?canot imagine that. I think the aging is somehow programmed natural in our bodies. I don't think we would ever be able to stop it. Maybe they can work on makeing it slowlier , but not stop it. Also I cannot imagine were all those people woould live, if each one would live for 1000 years and each would have how many kids?where all this people will live, shop and do everything we need in every day life.

I absolutely agree with blueunicorn - neither would I wish to live to such an age. I would only like to reach 100 years of age if I am in good health and not a burden to someone or to the society. Every must come to an end including the human life cycle: I hope money will not be spent on pursuing this as I think it should be spent on other problems regarding the well-being of those in bad health or with ailments right from birth.
Who would contribute to pay the pension if we all live to be 1000??? No I really hope this never happens!
