Hi I'm thinking about joining the Navy. I just wanted to put this out there, and see what people respond: Americans are killing and dying in Iraq for oil. Please discuss, and agree or disagree.

"Americans are killing and dying in Iraq for oil"
First of all son, if that's the additude and mindset you are entering the armed services with then please do me and the rest of the country a favor and turn around, walk out of the recruiting center and go find a nice safe job or go back to school. The military is not for you, nor is it a place for politics. In the military, they kill people and break things, it's what the do and I for one am thankful there are amazing brave young men and women with enough gahones to do this tough and thankless job. It helps me sleep at night.
Nor is a soldier on a battlefield thinking about oil or wondering and debating the politics of it and demanding a withdrawl because it's not winnable. If you can't do that, than the military is not for you. What sports team is going to have you as a member if you debate the morality of the game? How are your team mates or in your case, partners in arms going to be able to count on you 1000%? They wont be able to and people could die, most likely along with you.
The face of america seen by iraqis is the american soldier. If he is over there questioning his mission, then so are the people there reading his face. And so is the enemy.
There are a number of military and former military personal on here, I would talk to them a great deal before you made this decision if I were you. Best of luck. And welcome to mylot.

Plenty, I don't know how things are where you live, but here the politicians are people. We have good ones, and bad ones. In my individual state, our legislative body is made up of ordinary citizens who attend session a few times a year and go back to their regular jobs, what ever those may be, and most of them aren't rich, just regular guys and gals. There are plenty of corrupt politicians, it's world wide.
This oung man came in and said he was considering joining the military and brought up politics in the same breath. There is no place for politics in the mind of an american soldier. The 2 just don't and shouldn't mix.

Please follow your heart and follow it to the end. We want the war to end, if concripting you would bring the suffering of the Iraq people to an end then just join the navy immediately. Caution though, is that when you get there, behave like a professional soldier, dont mistreat ordinary Iraqi even if they are prisoners of war ok?

If you join the service for the United States remember this, You are fighting for the American people. We voted Bush into office. We may not agree on issues but your boss is the american people second and the president first. About the Iraqie oil well Ive not seen any proof to show that. I do know we gave Sadam WMDs. We just dont know which country ended up with them. If your not a true patriot then please dont sign up. We dont need half hearted soldiers. My father was in the Korean war and my brother in Viet Nam. Both true patriots and were good fighters. Its a lot to think about.

For the best defintion and intention, solider job is defined as a job of killing people, a few of them at least may not deservered to be killed, to defend your country.
