If you had a friend that had a low self esteem about the way she looked and she felt like she was never going to find anyone would you lie to her to make her feel better?

I try very hard not to do this as even though you have their best interests at heart you are shielding them from the truth and thats something thats going to be a lot more hurtful down the line. Not only this no matter how you rationalize it you are not being truthful to someone who trusts you. Who are you to determine what truths a person can understand/handle anyone, thats just being arrogant and controlling.
I know a person like who you're describing and if she asks me I tell her the truth and its nowhere near as horrible as you might think it is on that person. I mean yeah so she's not a super model thats no big deal, she is a really caring person who absolutely loves her friends and that she is going to find someone a lot better with those quality's then being shallow and trying to look more appealing physically.
Everyone has negative qualities thats a fact of life but they also have positive qualities and while I think you should tell her the hard truth (life is hard, get over it and move on) also focus on what makes her a good person.
