Is There A Secret Door In Your House?

Did you check behind the book shelves? lol. You never know. We bought an old house in Queensland, Australia many years ago. There was a door underneath the outside staircase. Yep, there was a whole other room under the stairs. We rented it out which really bummed out the kids (my cousins and I). It could have been such a fun "secret room." Do you know where all the doors in your house lead to?

Yes, of steel, it is locked from the other side and I have barricaded it from this side. Strange noises and cries emanate from it occasionally and some times fluid seeps under the door, also there is an unpleasant smell coming from the door. There are dents in it as if some hard object had impacted on it with great force. Sometimes I hear a soft whimpering behind it.

The smell is real bad, a bit like food that's gone bad. I don't like to go near it cause it makes me fall asleep then I wake up much later and hears the funny thing, I'm wearing different clothes and sometimes days have passed.
How about your secret door?

That would have been so exciting, I wish we had something secrative like that at our house =) The closest thing is a little cabinet my kids can hide in =) We don't have anything cool like that..maybe at our next house.

We do have a small opening in our family room closet. It leads to the crawl space under the house. I'd love to be able to use it for storage but there is no floor. It's mud. I won't go in there but we had termites once upon a time and the guy that came to treat the house had to get in that area. No telling what might be in there, if anything.

We dont exactly have a secret door, but there is a place in the basement where they put up a sheet of plaster board to conceal the rest of the basement. So we have a half basement, and have not a clue about the state of the rest of it. We know that there has to be a crawl space there for all the heating ducts and piping is under that section of the house, beyond we have no clue. And yes, I thought of installing a secret door there after we get brave and take out the wall.

Hi Gtargirl,
I personally dont have any secret doors, I live in an apartment actually. But I did read an article about having one installed. Yes! You can actually have these guys come to your house and have a bookcase installed in your house that is actually a secret door. Just like in the old movies.
I thought this was pretty interesting. I dont think I would do it. But I would be very excited to find one in a house that I bought, versus having one installed.

LOL well if there is a secret door in this house its a well kept secret cause I've not found it yet :-D We do have a lot of doors though, in fact the way the main floor of this house is laid out, all the rooms connect EXCEPT for one area next to the stairs leading to the upstairs..there use to be a doorway leading from the little hallway along the stairs into the kitchen but someone sealed it up some yrs ago...When we get around to renovating the main floor we're goin to open it up again though which will be cool

Well it was a room that we knew was there - it was just inaccessible.
It was in the 13th. century part of this farmhouse when they lived upstairs and the animals lived below. Then it became a hay loft with a trap door access but later the trap door was plastered over.
I opened it up and made a nice bedroom out of it for No.1 son.

No secret doors here. Bummer, would be a nice get away from the kids..LOL!! We do have an extra door in our bedroom. When we were looking at the house I was like whats the door for? It goes out on the roof of the back porch. It has no railing which I will have to put one up. Its neat to go sit out there. I go out there and take pictures of the sunsets. Its a very nice view. My dog likes to go out there to and look around like how the heck? LOL. She dosent try to jump off though..good thing I think she would get really hurt.

You know, I don't have any secret doors in my house, but for almost 19 years, I have had dreams about it not just having a secret room but a set of stairs and a whole additional story. I am talking a story that is bigger then the house.
Ok..I have weird dreams...what kiss me is I keep having it over and over.

No I do not Wish I had. My grandmothers neighbours had one it was a strange thing. We belive that Jewish people had the house before the war. It was a very old house and had a strange plan so its not like something didnt add up. They got the house in the mid 1960's and for many yeard had no idea about the sicret part. One day they were renovaiting the house and decided to remove the floor boards but when the removed it they noticed something strange. So they decided to knock the wall down and behind the wall there was a little room with things and stairs leading under the house. Under the house they found 2 small rooms there was furniture, some food (sugar, oil, beans, floor, salt and other things) clothes, old photos and other things. They dont know if the rooms were build for that purpuse or were there before and just had this wall build. They had people from the museums in the house and gave all the things to them so I dont know if they ever found the ovners but considering that 99% of the Jews in my city were killed I dont think they found them.

Hello friend. As ours is a large and new building for living with many apartments, we don't have a secret door. On the first floor it is shops and starting from the second floor, they are all apartments bought by the landlords of each apartment. It is a modern building though.
I think that yours is much more fun with a long history from all the other similar discussions you posted. Thanks for sharing.
