I need to buy Christmas gifts for my nieces and nephews and I know there have been alot of toy recalls. Do they automatically pull these toys from the shelves or do they still keep selling them? I don't want to buy them something that may harm them. Any ideas?

They do pull the toys off the shelves as they are recalled. Also many toy stores now have a bulletin board where they post recent recalls so you can check it with what you have at home. What you could do is buy gift cards and let the kids pick their own gifts. And so they get to actually open a gift from you to go with the gift card you could get them either a book or a coloring book and markers, depending on their ages. With all the recalls I think shopping for kids this Christmas is going to be much more difficult.

All of my ideas have already been mentioned. I would just like to say, though, that books are something that are very often overlooked as gift ideas. There are great books for every age and interest. I think all the kis on my gift list this year are going to get books. One idea I did for my neighbor last year is cruised the thrift stores looking for books I loved as a girl her age (10). Then I got to share a part of me and get a neat gift for a small price.
