What special Christmas, or holiday memories, do you have?

Do you have current Christmas, or holiday traditions? One of the fondest Christmas memories I have from my childhood, is a yearly trip our family would take into the city. Two of the largest department stores (Eaton's and Simpsons), would have beautifully decorated windows. These windows featured 'animated' scenes, which were changed each year. They were considered 'amazing' for those times, and people came from all over, just to see them. Afterwards, we'd go shopping in both department stores. I looked forward to this each year. Please share your memories, or current traditions here.

If we have big budget, sometimes we go carnivals and big amusement centers to spend Christmas day there. But most of the time, we are just at home busying ourselves in accomodating friends and relatives who visits our place. We enjoy more on giving gifts, then receive some and share blessings with others (friends or not). We usually gather outside, then invite others who walks by to eat for a while and enjoy meeting new friends!;) The night time is usually the time for partying, drinking and continue having fun chatting along..

This sounds like a lot of fun, raijin. I really enjoy giving to others as well, as it's a very good feeling to do this. Family and friends do help to make Christmas special. Thanks for your response.

I've already opened my heart to Jesus, mandeep_narang. Because of my faith, 'I definitely' see the difference, and have now, for many years. The beautiful decorations, sharing with family and friends, and warm memories of past Christmases, are a part of the 'celebration of His birth,' to me. Thanks for your response, and welcome to myLot.

Hi there someonesmom! I love the smell of christmas decorations, i supose this is something from childhood. when you get out the decorations and the smell they have. When you walk in the shops and go in the christmas part in the stores, reminds me of christmas when i was younger. In the shops where i live we have the worst decorations in the shops! it is disgusting. hopefully when they do the shopping centre up they will be able to afford better decorations to put up and a better santa display instead of a tacky tree!

Hi Karinne, I love the 'smell' of the Christmas season too, and especially pine boughs etc. I'm sorry that your decorations are like this, as they are so beautiful here. Hopefully, the ones in your shopping centre will be nice. Thanks for your response.

My best memories are of spending some Christmas's with my Mom and all the closeness and love that was always there. The other best memories are the Christmas's I spent with my Dad and just being able to spend time with him. "COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS" **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I can relate to this, as being with my parents on Christmas, made it very special. My dad passed away when I was five, so I don't have 'many' memories of this time with him, but my mom was with us longer. She always made Christmas 'special,' although we didn't have a lot materially at the time. Thanks for your response.

My best Christmas memories are from when I was little. My uncle use to dress up as Santa Claus and do the whole bit where we got to sit on his lap and ask for presents. We got to open our gifts from family on Christmas Eve and then we would have our gifts from Santa on Christmas Day. We still do this now. We have a huge Christmas party at our house on Christmas Eve and all of our family and friends come. We've done this for as long as I can remember and it makes the holiday feel more special because you are with the people you love.

Mine are from when I was little too, and also from when my daughter (now 16), was much younger. There's something 'magical' about kids at Christmas. We always open our gifts on Christmas morning. I can tell that you have a great time celebrating with your family. Thanks for your response.

Some of the best Christmas gifts, are the homemade ones our kids make. They're such great keepsakes. Thanks for sharing.

I've started a new one with my grandsons. I make a stocking every year for them now. They either come over Christmas eve and open them or we go to my daughters house early Christmas Day to give them to the boys. As a child my families tradition was to open our new clothes every Christmas Eve so we would have new clothes for midnight Mass. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Hi Grandpa Bob, This is a really great new tradition, and I'm sure your grandsons love it. We had homemade stockings, that my mom hand sewed, when we were kids. We couldn't wait to get ahold of them on Christmas morning. Back then, ours were filled with 'edibles,' but they're such a great memory. Having new clothes to attend church with, is something special too. Thanks for sharing, as always.:)
