as we approach remembrance day here in Europe and the Us i read an interesting fact the other day about the first world war..apparently 1,000,000 horses were used at the front but only 60000 returned so thats 999,940 horses that were killed...amazing this fact has not been disclosed before..what do you think?

OMG we don't seem to account for the animals killed in wars do we, that is so sad, the poor things they have no choice and it is not their fight either, animals never get a thought for their pain or anything, we should care more as they have feelings too, thank you for the info...

man has always used animals for its own advantage...as you say it was not their fight and what a horrible experience it must have been for them ..at least humans have a conscious knowledhe of the things going on around them even if most of them in the first world war had as much choice as the horses!!

oh those poor things! i remember watching a show a number of years back about the K-9 units that were used in the Vietnam war (or maybe it was the Korea..i cant remember which one sorry). i THINK only a few hundred were deployed in the war effort, but NONE of them were allowed to be brought back home!!
i remember seeing the filmage of the vets as they told their stories breaking out in tears at having to leave their PARTNERS (that often saved theirs and other troopers lives) behind, when they were sent back home.
i was bawling my eyes out. how horrific it must have been for both the soldiers and the dogs..not understand why, the only explanation given them is something about "property that would cost too much to return and is cheaply replaced"!!!
can you believe that?!! ugh..its just terrible.

thanks for that.. i was not aware of this either .. we live so much of our lives in the dark so it seems...dogs were also used in the first world war as messengers..the Germans in particular used Boxer dogs.. i know this becasue i have Boxer dogs myself and have read up on the history of the breed..i assume the poor creatures were also used and discarded as you say the Korean dogs were...what a sorry lot we humans are..
