The minimum wage in the United States is currently $5.85 an hour, it is set to be raised to $6.75 an hour by July 26th 2008 and to $7.50 an hour by July 26th 2009. My question to you is what do you think the minimum wage in this country should be?

Currently where I live here in MD, minimum wage is $6.15 an hour. Even being a little more then the average, it is still hard for people to live off of such low wages. Even if someone were to work forty hours a week at a minimum wage job, that is still only about two hundred dollars a week after taxes. That is assuming the job will allow you to work forty hours a week. I think the minimum wage should at least be about eight dollars. As much money as company makes from people who work these low paying jobs, they can afford to pay their employees a little bit more.
