Most people choose their computers according to brands. Others like to customize a bit having a few tweaks here and there. The most popular i think is the system box or what others mistakenly call the cpu (which is not) Hi im a new member here and i would love to hear from you guys :) My girlfriend is going to buy an apple computer which is very pricy but i think the could manage. What do you think?

I would prefer the branded computers as the hardware and softwares are tested and proven unlike the one that you build yourself. As far as price is concerned, nowadays, the fully assembled branded computers are cheaper than those that you have to customized.

The cheapest branded computers with Celeron processor can go as cheap as $300 and the cheapest Centrino ones can be purchased for as low as $500.

No I won't. I think we get a lot of advanatages by going for the assembled computer and I am very happy with the perofrmance of the computer whcih I have got assembled.

so meaning you never assembled a computer yourself?! why?! whats the advantage on you're side? you buy the assembled computer from the store?! meaning it has been assembled already

Well I have used a lot of computer in my recent years and I came to a conclusion that branded computers do have an advantage. You pay an extra amount but that is justified by the quality that they provide. I had a hp pavilion desktop computer and it is still working. The next computer that I had was an assembled and let me tell you it gave me a lot of problem now and then. So I think it is better to pay a little more than the usual and get a good computer. They also give you a lot of other useful resources. Plus you don’t have the tension of repairing. Just dump on the service center and they will do the job.

I've had my current computer for almost 9 years. I've used it just about every single day for hours and it still works fine (But it's being rendered obsolete). I'm about to start looking for a new one and I'll probably go with HP again since I've had very good luck with this one.

that obsolete thing really comes very fast. Technology is growing very fast INtel is launching a couple of chips next week on monday i don't know much but i think the processors are going to be running a 3.30 gigahertz. and i think it doesn't stop there in a ddition to the quad core that they have.

Personally, I prefer to build my computer to my own specifications. My last computer needed upgrading, so I purchased the parts I wanted individually and installed them. A lot of times when you buy a computer from a store, some things in it are really top-of-the-line, while others are just so-so. This way, I could get the computer exactly as I wanted it, and am very happy with it. And I hate Apples & Macs...lol.

People who do not have your knowledge or skills can not build their own computers. Why do you hate Macs? I am curious. I had an Apple way back, in the 80's, then at work used windows and just went over to the Windows machine to be able to work at home. At work now, they have Windows..but I love my Mac. I will never go back to Windows. Their support is the best I have ever had from any computer company - IBM, eMachines, HP, Dell...Apple leaves them in the dust!

but majority of people do think buying branded is much more safer. Well its easy for you to customize because you know the processors motherboards(theers a term for boards that i forgot)

hi!!so personally i never choose a computer just for the brand such as apple, dell,hp and so on...normally i analyse its characterists deeply and also considering the major purposes i want use it and so buy it in this way i can plan even a set of programs which are suitable depending from my usage!! as regards the aple computer that want buy your girlfriend naturally apple are good as computer especially design but in some cases i saw apple branded which ithey costs very much but the offer as regards the machine in general was not so good!! so naturally apple is a good brand knew around the world but i think that the most important characteristics for computer, laptop and so on..is not what you can see external but what thre is inside it after design ,colour and something like that which nomrally they must be secondary!!!

well some people say that buying a computer with a brand is a much more safer decision. Considering that all the parts are completely the same and it has been set up to be in a standard performance... STANDAR not really that good

It depends on how you see it. Taking a branded computers is expensive with all the licensed thing while cpu (system box) gives you a freedom like customizing, upgrading and the like. you can do whatever you like to it at your own risk..:) I prefer cpu because its cheaper and fun.

This is where the concept of brand loyalty plays a huge role. Because you are so familiar with a product from a particular brand you know from your personal experience that it is reliable. In a world of ever increasing technology any computers you buy these days are guaranteed full functionality based on its specs. Also getting your computer fixed if it has any problems can virtually be done at every second store youcome across. THE ONLY reason alot of people choose dell is warranty (regardless of the fact that they are so over priced). I would never buy a dell unless it was hugely discounted because alot of other less popular brands like WinBook & Acer are cheaper and has the same features. In terms of Apple you really can't find another alternative because of the mac and people's familiarity with it. If it were a windows based product then I would've advised you to sell the idea of a different brand with the same specs at a cheaper cost. In my case anytime a family member wants to buy, they come to me and I shop around first at teh popular brands to see the price range and specs that are in today's market and then look around for the best price & sales.
