Go back in time ....

Go back in time to when you were 10 or 11 years old. Remember how we all had lists of all the things we wanted to do, what we wanted to be? Remember your goals and dreams from when you were an idealistic kid. Are you where you thought you were going to be? Did you become what you had planned on becoming? What do you think the 10 year old you would have to say to the grown up version of yourself?

Interesting discussion. I remember when i was 10 i didn't have a clear idea of what i wanted to be when i grew up, i knew that even then i was relatively good at music(without trying to sound too arrogant!) So thats the only thing i really wanted to do, and i'm doing a degree in music next year so i guess that's a first step towards a career in music. I also wanted to travel around South America which i did last year and am going back this year before i start Uni. So at the moment i'd say i was heading in the right direction of what i want to do with my life, but i'm only 21 so can't really claim any achievment yet, but there is still time.

Sounds like you're on the right track :) What specifically do you do in music? I'm sort of .. professionally curious, I suppose. :) I was raised by a musician, heavily integrated in music. I sang backup for him for years, sang solo when I was younger, and now am a makeshift songwriter. :)

I play guitar, bass and percussion, and am looking to go into studio/live session work, engineering, teaching or producing. Ideally i'd like to make a living just from session work and a bit of teaching, but i'v already done a music technology course, so i can do a bit of engineering or producing, i just prefer the actual playing side. What sort of stuff do you write?

This is a very good discussion and it certainly made me think. I suppose that my 10-year-old incarnation would be very disappointed in the adult I've become although, in the 30-odd years since I was 10 or 11, I have travelled a lot, seen many things, done many other, with a 50-50 ratio of good and bad. But all in all, I'd say that it's a good thing that kids cannot meet the adult they will become, or many of them would simply ride their bike under a bus in order to avoid such a future. ;)

LOL ... your closing line actually made me laugh out loud. :) I don't know ... I'd like to think the 10 year old me would be satisfied with what I've become, but then again, at 10 we all thought we'd be rich and famous, or have cured some horrible disease ... or have gone on to do all these amazing things. That's part of the joy of being that age ... the feeling that anything is possible. Maybe just being 'satisfied' wouldn't be enough for a kid who thinks the sky is the limit. :) Thanks for the response!

That's the beauty of being a kid -- at least in the Western world or any country that isn't stricken by war and/famine -- you have dreams and aspirations that push you forward. And this is the sadness of being an adult: when you look back, you see more regrets than achievements. Such is life!

When i was this age i dream to become someone with a degree that was in my mind but we never had the control of time and whats happening in our life.As i was getting older things had changed and there were changes that happened in my life.I still did achieve something but not the one i was thinking of when i was younger.I was totally different from when i was that young. We can never really tell our future but i am happy with my life now being with my wonderful family.

Ciniful I am partway there. I have wonderful husband, 3 terrific children, I am writing but not a famous author the way I hoped I'd be and all the money I hoped I would have has not shown up. I guess you could say I got the best of my hopes and dreams.
