I was trying to think of gifts for my family the other day and came up with an idea I'd like to share with you. It's hard to get gift ideas for family members such as parents, etc, they have everything they need. So I decided to share our 2007 with them, I live 1600 miles away. I'm making mini-scrapbooks, using 6 x 6 and 4x6 albums, some photo albums will work for this too. I'll be sharing special events, holidays, etc with them, with pictures, embellishments and discriptions of the event. I'm adding some of my daughter's favorite recipes that I've used for years to hers. And I'll be including some scrapbooking supplies with the ones going to my daughters, since they got into scrapbooking too.

That is a neat idea! And my kids dids something like that for me last year! I have six kids, so each one decorated a large frame with them and all their kids on each one! And they put pictures on there from the time they were babies until they were grown and with their babies, also! It looks almost like a family tree on my wall,(it takes up a whole wall)!
I think this is the most memorable gift I have ever recieved!

That is great, I figure it's a way to share what all has gone on in my life in the past year, since we live so far apart, and eventhough we talk on the phone at least once a week, well you can just say a bit more with pictures. Hope all is well with you. Things are good here in PA.

OMG, work has become even more fun, I've been helping out in the district office, sense this is our 'off' time of the year for fires, one of the guys hates the cowboys so Monday (or Tuesday) mornings are even more fun when I walk in and say 'How bout those Cowboys'! hahahahaha

That's a great idea for gifts, every time I have made a small gift album for someone they have loved it. I think when you make a gift then it tells the recipient that you care enough to give them your time.
My great-niece was baptised recently and I was unable to attend the ceremony. I knew my niece, the baby's mother, was hurt by this so I wanted to make it up to her. I made a hand-made 6x6 album with lots of photos of the baby, and lots of Baptism embellishments (including a beautiful little tiny lace dress). I printed some special prayers and poems onto vellum, and embossed them in silver. It took me hours - but it was well worth it, my niece loved it. And she forgave me - because it showed her that I cared about her and her daughter, even though I couldn't be there for the ceremony.

That's a great idea too. It's just me and my sister, and she lives 6 hours from my parents and as I stated above I'm 1600 miles away from them and my youngest daughter, my other daughter is 6 hours away from me, and due to our jobs, it's hard for us to get enough time to go away for holidays, he's a police officer and I work for the forestry service.

Well, as luck would have it, my oldest daughter is driving down to Texas, she just came up to our house to drop off her dog, we are dogsitting! So, I had them wrapped and ready to go, so she is taking them for me. Otherwise I would have boxed and mailed them to everyone. I love scrapbooking, I have 6 large (12x12) that are ongoing projects. And my daughter will be coming back up in January, to pick up the dog and spend sometime here while her Army husband is in training, and she'll be bringing her scrapbooking stuff too. So we'll clear off the big dining room table and spend days scrapbooking, laughing, and drinking hot chocolate.

that's such a great way to bond. I've just made a Layout for my parents for their 30th anniversary! photos of them when they were dating and on the wedding day, and a recent one. ;)

That's a great idea. I'm working on a digital scrapbook of my son's 1st year to give copies to my family. I love doing digital scrapbooks. with gifts like these you can put lots of love and effort into it. Makes the gift mean more than anything store bought.

That's a good idea also, I haven't gotten into the digital scrapbooking, I love sitting and doing it all by hand, and with all the paper and embellishments out there it is so much fun and relaxing too. It's a great stress reliever. I got both of my daughters started in it too. I also love having rainy/snow days that I can watch it out the window while I sit there scrapping.

I bet everyone loved your gifts! I'm the only scrapbooker in my family and they love it when I give them handmade items involving photos. I recently completed a scrapbook for my grandfather's 90th birthday. He was so thankful for it. I'm sure your family feels the same.

Yes, they did, I called them Christmas morning, and as luck would have it they were opening the gifts. Mom and Dad really loved it, the pictures, and the story telling of it.

That's a great idea! I did something similar a couple years ago for my mother in law and she loved it. I have no idea why I haven't done it again, since it was such a huge hit... now you have me thinking that I should be doing one for this year!
Thanks!

We did that a few years ago. We also made DVD Slide shows of our photos taken over the last year. Everyone just loved them. I added music to the slide show and that just made them wonderful.
It can be very difficult when you live so far away from family. It is a 9 hour drive to our oldest daughter's home and a 3 hour drive to our youngest daughters home. So I know about long distance family. :)

Thank you, that is a wonderful idea, doing a slide show with music, I might just have to try doing that, I've never messed with that kind of thing, but my boyfriend does know how to do powerpoint presentations and stuff, so maybe he can show me.

I think that was a great idea! I hope it went well for you. Our family basically all lives right here and already knows a little more about us than I'd like them to know lol but I'm sure i'd want to do something to keep them updated if we did live far away.

I have had fun making them, picking the pictures, and putting them together. My daughter came up from Virginia to drop off her dog, we're dogsitting, while she goes to Texas for Christmas. So she will be taking them with her, to put under the tree at my mom's. I thought this was a fun way to share, and they are always asking for pictures.

Thank you, since we live so far apart I figured it was a way to share my year with them since so much has happened, I was hired for my dream job, bought a new vehicle, and a used blazer for bad weather and work, my oldest daughter and her hubby came up to visit several times, while he was on leave and after he got home from Iraq, and my sister and her hubby came for a visit. Even though we talk on the phone often, well as they say, pictures say a thousand words.
