Has anyone else watched Michael Moore's "SICKO"

We rented this documentary this weekend since it just came out on DVD. Once again this man has shown a side of our country that the politicians don't want us to know about. I was appalled at so many things he brought to light (as he did in Fahrenheit 911). It really makes our government look pathetic. It doesn't seem that the politiations care a bit about us citizens. The insurance companies and pharmaceutical companys are running the health care (or lack of it) in this country. If you haven't seen it you are denying your self some really harsh realities. I know that their will be lots of arguing from people who have been told to think this intelligent and gutsy man is an idiot but the ones saying he is an idiot are the same ones who are trying to hide the truth. He sure hit the nail on the head with Fahrenheit 911. It is time for people to stand up and take notice of what this man is trying to tell us.

i did watch it. and i saw it from a non-american perspective. allow me to share my thoughts. health care is an essential part of our society. in fact, it is the noblest function of a government. a government that does not take good care of the health of its citizens is no good government at all. in the film, it revisits the laudable health care systems of canada, UK, france, and cuba. what is amazing on these systems is that it is offered free for citizens. now one may ask about the quality of the systems.. from my friends and readings, the health care systems really work for those countries. good things deserve attention. bad things deserve attention too. the good things are the health systems of the countries mentioned. the bad things are the complaints and inaccessibility of health care in the US (as the documentary presents) although some of my friends would corroborate the facts of the film. moore has a sharp eye for issues that rub on our sensibilities and preconceived beliefs. i like the film and i like his style.

Thank you so much for such a great response. Our government tries to tell us that these countries have terrible health care, waiting rooms are full, people die waiting on treatment, etc. But the people who live in these countries say that is not true. So who do we believe? A bunch of bureaucrats who are afraid of losing money in their personal bank accounts from the insurance companies or the people who live their? Not one of the people he interviewed mentioned their large hospitals taking poor patients and dumping them in front of slum districts, yet he had video tape of American hospitals doing just that. Thanks for the great response.

thank you too for bringing up the discussion. it really helps discussing things like this on how we view our taken-for-granted world.

Oh, I have not seen this Movie yet, but I am really wanting to rent it. I am curious to see what he has to say about the Health Care system, etc. and how it has to relate with our Government as a whole. As for Farenheit 911, this movie was awesome, and one I feel anyone who has never seen it, needs too, and see for themselves what type of people we have running the United States. All it did for me, is confirm the reason I will never Vote Republican again when it comes to President of the United States.

My husband and I watched this movie about two or three weeks ago. It disturbed me greatly also to see things that are going on. I knew the insurance problem was bad but I didn't realize how bad until I watched the movie. I don't always agree with Michael Moore but on this one I did have to agree. My husband is a big fan of Mr. Moore.

No, this man has created a side of this country HE wants us to think we see, using half truths, non-truths and cleverly twisted truths. And a side of the cuban government that exists in his own little fantasy universe. So I'm trying to hide the truth? I'm part of the plot? Because I have this opinion? I have never been denied medical care at my hospital or medical center. I have never not been able to get a perscription I needed nore have I ever been given substandard car because of my lack of insurance. I now get insurance from my own hospital, a private fund set up for such things and it works amazingly. I wont deny some things need to be done to get health care to the 15 million or so who have no means of paying for it. But Government is absolutely not the answer, nor is it their fault. IT'S NOT THERE PROBLEM. We're talking about a group of people who couldn't find their own asss with both hands, nap and GPS. The people who cant stop someone from sneaking under a fence. The people who pay $400 dollars for a toilet seat. THESE are the people ou want to run your healthcare?????????? Afew facts reguarding Mr. Moore and Cuban healthcare claims: Moore did not visit representative hospitals, but only elite institutions. The United Nations report that Moore relies upon to support his claims of qualit of healthcare in Cuba did not gather any data. It simply repeated data given to it by the Cuban government itself. Cuba's fetal mortality rates are grossly understated because of the national practice of aborting sick fetuses before they are born and of classifying a fetus which perishes within a few hours of being born as never having been born at all. Moore said, "All the independent health organizations in the world, and even our own CIA, believes that the Cubans have a pretty good health system. And they do, in fact, live longer than we do." when asked, the CIA, stated that it never made such a claim about Cuban health care and said that its information shows americans live significantly longer on average than Cubans. Fidel was almost killed by his doctors, they imported a real one from Spain. In South Africa the government imported Cuban doctors to fill gaps at the primary level, ie rural clinics. They were mostly a disaster. Apart from the serious language problems, reports of incompetence were rife. For more on the real cuba, see this link: http://cubatruthproject.blogspot.com/2007/05/michael-moore-and-cuba.html So about our healthcare. Michael is right about one thing. We need to do something. But glorifying a government like Castro's and holding up propagandists with absolute and definitively open political agenda's is not a good start. "It doesn't seem that the politiations care a bit about us citizens" Then why did you vote for them? there are 47 political parties in this country and since political parties aren't a wing of the government or even ran by the government, it's the fault of apathetic sheeple voters that we have government officials that don't SEEM to care about us. I don't want the government in my living room, my bedroom, I don't want them listening in on my phone conversations, people have been screaming about that one but they are willing to turn an even bigger portion of their privacy and personal control over to the the government by allowing them in to our doctor's office and hospital beds?

After reading this gibberish I have concluded that you think it is ok for large corporate insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies to be in you doctor's office and hospital beds. I was wondering - when did you watch this movie? Did you go to the theater or rent it on DVD when it came out last week. Or did you type all of this without bothering to watch it?

Actualy I saw it before it came out on dvd. My point, which was poorly made I'll grant, was that is that YES, it needs fixxing, NO it does not need the government and that is the point michael is driving subliminal and not so subliminaly through out the movie. I don't like the fact that tha pharmacutical companies are what they are but I like the federal government even less and trust them about as far as I could spit them in to the wind. The facts I gave are just that, fact, Feel free to look them up. All michael Moore had to do if he wanted to make this point was to just tll it like it is, that in itself is bad enough..

I totally agree and feel this man not only deserves a lot more credit then he gets but he also deserves a great big thank you for having the guts to inform us of all of the corruption in our government. Thanks for the response.

I have both of these movies on my Blockbuster queue. I'm thinking about moving them up towards the top. I REALLY want to see "Sicko" and am looking forward to it. I don't have a preconceived idea about Michael Moore one way or another, so I think I will be able to come to my own conclusions after hearing the points he has to make. Even if some of his ideas are the truth the way he sees it, watching things like this is a great way to start your own mind thinking. Thanks for the recommendation, Blue!

You are quite welcome Blue. You will really get your eyes open to a lot of things that really shocked me. I think it says a lot when Oprah has an entire show devoted to Michael Moore and his Sicko movie. She ended the show by saying that every single American should sit down and watch this one and she along with her audience gave him a standing ovation. Bush on the other hand (it was announced on the news this week) has issued him with a subpoena to answer questions about why he was in Cuba LOL. I would like to call Bush and say "Watch the movie stupid and you will know why he was there." LOL

That really does say something to have Oprah say that we should all watch it. I may not always agree with everything that Oprah says, but she is pretty good at bringing up subjects we should think about. I'll definately get this movie soon!

I've thought about watching it but probably won't. I don't like the man. He likes to twist things and omit information that doens't help his side of the story. Now before I get slammed I am a democrat and I am a liberal. I watched Fahernite 9/11 and thought it was good until I did my own research on the subject and discovered how wrong he was on a lot of points. He's an extremist, just as bad as the far right wing conservatives.
