what do u people think? Most people say that old is gold but is it true. Every thing has a beginning but as they progress they tend to get better. we know that special effects have certainly changed a lot and many movies use them a lot. but just becoz they use special effects they dont become bad movies. my guess is if they had better special effects in the past they also use them heavily. I like classic movies but personally i think new movies better cuz they have new revolutionary ideas and they are becoming fun and interesting to watch. what are your thoughts on this topic?

I think it all has to do with person tatse really if you are into westerns or sometihng I think the older ones would be better but who knows. I think the newer movies such as SAW are why better now as I dont remeber older movies have twist like those.

yeah it's mostly based on a persons taste but i think it's more about change. I think most people dont like the change. that's why people hold on to things like traditions not just movies. They are afraid to look at a new view. That's what's wrong wit most people in this time but the youth population is becoming more understandable so it's better for movies and world. anyway one thing i like to point out is that new movie people have the experience of all those years and they now willing to go out side of box to make movies and they got revolutionary ideas. That's what makes new movies better.

I generally prefer movies from the 30's and the 40's over the ones today - that said, I and others who would agree with me sometimes forget the fact that we only see the old movies that have pretty much passed the test of time, meaning that many of the old movies that are shown now were the better ones of its day, as opposed to the present time, when we are exposed to all movies, good or bad that is playing in the theater (as I type this). I prefer the older movies because they seem to rely more on the acting and the plot than today. I love movies whether they were made this year or were made 80 years ago, and if people ask me what my favorites are, I could categorize my favorites by decade - but if you ask me to narrow down my all time top three, they would be 1. Casablanca, 2. Angels with Dirty Faces, and 3. Red River - all made before 1950, which, ironically or not, was before television made such a big impact.
