You're the lawmaker ... now what?

I'm sure there are some laws that you don't agree with, and some you find absolutely ridiculous. I'm not talking about the outdated laws, like no tying your donkey to a tree on Sunday in Nebraska type of things, but current active laws.
If you had the ability to change the laws to better society, in your view, which changes would you make?
Personally, I'd do away with pretty much any law that restricts personal decisions, providing it doesn't impact others. I'm talking about laws like those restricting chemical usage (I don't agree with it, but it's not my choice to make), laws that restrict business owners from allowing smoking customers on their property, laws essentially put in place to 'protect us from ourselves'.
I'd also change the laws to include much harsher penalties for animal cruelty, since the standard in most places is a slap on the wrist.
