The stars with numbers in them is the users rating. After 100 posts, a user gets a star. Other myLot users rate the comments and posts of other myLot users and the system assigns a number to that users star. It can change often of not at all. It depends solely on how others rate the user. One is the lowest and ten is the best rating. So post a lot of quality topics like you're doing, give quality responses and in no time you'll be at 100 and hopefully have a 10 in your star! Good luck!

Thank you for your warm greetings. I hope everyone has a good time in Mylot.
By the way, can you let me know, if I add a comment behind somebody's posting, do I need to rate it first?I don't understand why somebody got 10, 9,in front of their usernames, while others nothing. what does it mean? thanks.

Well, HELLO tybtgdh! Welcome to myLot! You're right. This is a place full of nice people with great discussions and opinions. And they are a warm and welcoming lot. I'm sure you will spend countless hours reading and responding here - there's just do much stuff!
I'm a California native and I would be honored to help you with your English as well as exchanging info about our two cultures. Any question is game for me. So ask away, and I'll do the same!

"Ask away" is one way of saying ask as many questions as you have or would like to. There is no limit to how many you are allowed to ask. I'm curious. I've often heard of Beijing in the news. What I don't ever hear about is what kind of city is it? Is it a rich city, industrial city or is it a quiet and reserved city that is more a beautiful place to live. What's it like there?

You are so nice. you gave me very clear explanation of the phrase 'ask away'. now I got it.This is the first phrase I learned from mylot friend. I wrote it down in my notebook. Thanks.
As to Beijing, the capital of China, is very very big city with a large population. it pertains to political and cultural city with a lot of Chinese famous universities, research institutes plus cultural and historic sites. Many foreigners choose to stay in Beijing because it is very exciting city. Many recreational activities, work opportunities, easy to make easy money, etc....The bad thing is, too much pollution in this city. Anyway, it is a city worth to visit. Welcome you to come to Beijing for Olympics.
