Unusual Pets

People usually keep cats, dogs, rabbits, birds, and fish as pets. But there are cases where people have had unusual pets. One of my college mates had a squirrel that literally lived in his pockets and only came out once in while to take a walk over his shoulders. Have you had any unusual pet? Do you know anyone who has had an unusual pet? Please share the stories with me.

Hello positiveminded1977. I had an unsual pet before. It was a lobster. I couldn't remember who thought of keeping a lobster as a pet. Our pet lobster didn't last long. The last thing I remembered was, we were cleaning the lobster's aquarium. I couldn't even remember were we placed the lobster after that. We couldn't find the lobster afterwards.

Hi ericajoyce, this is quite interesting. I thought people eat lobsters, not keep them for pets. :) The bigger mystery is about the disappearance of the lobster. How can a lobster disappear into thin air? Do you think the cat got at him? Cheers and happy posting!!

Hi, you are right! You can't cuddle a lobster, and what is a pet if you can't cuddle it? Lobsters are good to eat though. I read somewhere that the most cuddly pets are guinea pigs.

I know it was unsual for me too because I never did like lobsters in the first place you couldn't even cuddle it. I think it went out by itself.

Unfortunately I've never had any unusual pets. I do remember a friend of mine had stick insects when we were kids - I thought they were horrible but he loved them!

I used to keep frogs, I love frogs and they are very fascinating creatures to study and watch, also to feed. I actually find them charming and lovely, even to hold. I enjoy feeding them, and I have had five in a very big aquarium, they do need a lot of looking after and warmth especially in the Winter. They can be high maintenance because you need to stock special foods in for them, but I would recommend it. I got books out about them so that they lived a fulfilled and happy life together.

Wow, Wolfie, that's great! My mother squeals when she sees a frog. I can't wait to tell her this. Personally, I feel that frogs are very interesting creatures. I like to watch them jumping about. But I guess I wouldn't keep them as pets. Thanks for responding, Wolfie!!

I know a friend who had a pet alligator for a while. He had to give it back because it got to big to stay indoors and who wants an alligator in the house anyways?

LOL, your friend reminds me of Hagrid in the Harry Potter books. He was fond of all dangerous creatures and hatched a baby dragon once. He had to give it away, of course, because it was illegal in the magic world to keep dragons, and the dragon would get too big for his hut. How did your friend get chummy with an alligator?

We have rats. They are super friendly and make great pets. My dad had a ferret (also fun and friendly, but more work then the rats). I had a friend in high school who had snakes. There are a lot of exotic and unusual pets out there. I am hoping to get a sugar glider in the next few years!

That sounds wonderful! Do you mean white mice? Never kept them myself, but read lots about them in books. I am terrified of snakes and wouldn't go near them! :) But what is a sugar glider? Never heard of one.
