Need help with Windows XP

I have microsoft windows xp and for some reason the computer screen has a white background when I pull up the internet. The toolbar is also really small and the text is small. when I pull up the internet, the web pages are all really small and show in the middle of the computer screen. How do I fix this so that the internet fits across my entire computer screen and the toolbar is bigger. It is small enough that I can verily see it. I have been searching the internet for two days trying to fix this. This only happened after I purchased a different computer. any suggestion?
