Is it just me or are the attempts to change up the formula of the show coming off as contrived and stilted? Case in point: last week's episode where Charlie rushes to Amita's rescue. It was hard to swallow and just to not real.
I really liked that you could count on every show ending with Charlie, Alan and John Epps eating dinner or doing some activity together. I didn't even mind when other members of the cast got included in these little get togethers. But now the endings are different and the attempts to use the university campus and outdoor scenes more than FBI building and the Epps' home just seem misplaced and to some extent far less realistic than earlier shows.
Lately they have also relied less heavily on the math, which is why I started watching in the first place. The detailed explanations (at least for me a non-mathematician)are always interesting and entertaining. I like the way they manage to incorporate whatever props are at hand in the explanation too. So I miss some expects of the old formula and am wondering if anyone else does too.

I personally appreciate the way they're branching out and showing these scenarios from different perspectives. If you hadn't oticed, Charlie's life has changed quite a bit over the past few years, not in the least relevant of ways his relationships. I definitely still see the cohesiveness within the Epps family but people grow and change and don't keep up the same routines forever. Bear in mind that Alan is a student at the University now so scenes involving him aren't always going to be about the retiree puttering around the house anymore. There are more scenes at the university because two out of three of the Epps men are there a lot so you'll see them there a lot. Thanks for sticking with the show. It needs viewers and I think you'll be able to roll with the changes if you just keep watching.

Thanks for your comments.I see what you are saying. And I do appreciate the changes that have taken place for not just Charlie but many of the characters. My only real complaint is that these changes and new settings should not be jarring to the point that I don't believe any of the story anymore.
I will keep watching though because it is one of the few shows that got me watching television again.
