Online predators and gangs recruiting online

I just came home from a Home & School Association meeting at my son's school and we had a special analyist from one the major counties come speak to us about online predators and gangs. It was really scary and an eye-opener for some people. I know they exist and where they are most likely to appear but he showed us some really graphic videos that I'm thinking should be shown to the kids even if they needed to cut some of the graphics out just to try to put the scare into them as it did the parents. Also, I was unaware that many gangs are recruiting members on myspace, facebook, etc. He told us one person even had their gang application on myspace's webpage - it has not been deleted by the proper authorities. He did confirm that clubpenguin is highly monitored for these type of predators. Although my oldest is 8 and doesn't go on the computer too much - I learned a lot tonight. One of the websites he directed us to was netsmartz.org. He also said that there is a USB (spook stick I believe is the corret name) that will keep track of every chat room, etc. your child has been in and what the contents were so you can moderate what is going on and see everything that was written. It's a scary world out there and we need to keep our children safe.
