Cheap batteries or Name brand batteries.

I'm just wondering if the cheap batteries are the same as the name brand batteries like Durcell and Engergizer? They are so expensive now days and my daughters music mobile uses them like crazy. I don't want to spend the money on the name brand batteries if the cheaper ones work just as well. What kind of batteries do you buy? Do you think that there's a difference?

I have bought batteries from the dollar store before - sometimes they are a brand name or a knock-off but it's still cheaper than Duracell, etc. I find them to be just about the same quality. I would like to add though that I have pulled out some of my son's toys from when he was little (he's 8 now) and believe it or not - some of the toys still work. I really believe the batteries were made better in the past than they are now.

Here's what I recomment. Buy a set a rechargeable batteries with the charger. Sometimes you can find a great deal that includes a whole set with different prices. I know Energizer does this. It might seem kind of pricey, but in the long run I saved so much money. I've had my Energizer rechargeables for over a year now, and I got the charger with 6 AA batteries for $29.99. When they run out, I just stick them back into the charger overnight and then they are as good as new.
It's definitely worth the initial price int he long run. Also, throwing away batteries is bad for the environment, but with these you alleviate that problem because they don't need to be replaced for two years or more.

It really depends on the exact brand. I've bought batteries at Dollar Tree stores and they didn't really last that long. Although, they have different brands in there at different times. I've also had an off brand that barely lasted at all and leaked as well. However, a cheaper battery brand that I really like is the Kirkland (Costco) brand. They're a really good deal and last a long time.

definitely has to be a name brand battery. i don't trust cheap batteries. and they never last as long as i want them too.
so i'd rather go with the nam brand batteries. thank you.

I prefer the brand name usually energizer. I have tried the genaric and they dont seem to last as long so in the end you spend more than brand name batteries. My kids have a geo trax train set ans each train takes 6 aa batteries. 3 in the train and 3 in the controler. I have tried both in the trains and end up replacing the genaric very quickly.

It depends what you are using them for, but in general I find Duracel to be the best battery. For flashlights, toys and things of that nature, there is not much difference. But in radios, cameras and other electronics, better batteries make a difference in performance and last a lot longer. I also find that once there is not enough power left for my camera, the batteries work well in flashlights or remotes, since they use a lot less energy. So I resuse them.

hello.
sometimes the cheaper batteries are just the same. it depends on what they are used for. like in a tv remote. they seem to last long.

I used to use big brand batteries for camera until someone said get rechargable batteries which didn't last very long anyway and I had to keep changing and recharging then someone else suggested I use lithium batteries which can't be recharged and are expensive to buy but they last for such a long time, I can up to 1000 shots on lithium which I think is better than recharging and recharging all the the time...

Cheap batteries do not last long and you have to keep on replacing them. Duracell and Energizer last a lot longer and if you calculate the cost, it would turn out to be about the same. make sure you include the cost of the trips to buy cheap batteries in you calculation.
The other option is to get those rechargeable ones. I have not tried any of those before so I can't tell you how they perform.

Energizer and Duracell may last slightly longer than no-name brands....But they are still expensive.
If your place has an Ikea store, their batteries are probably the most value for money....they last decently long and they are cheap
But if you use batteries a lot, go for rechargeable ones...

I was just going to ask this same question - I bought a christmas gift today and need to find batteries . I had heard that cheap batts don't have, I believe it was, the proper Alkaline in them like the name brands do so they won't last as long, but also, they can damage the connectors they are placed in. Anyone know about this?

I wonder the same thing. I had heard someplace that the cheaper ones don't have something, like alkaline or something, that make the connectors or something in there burn out sooner or wear out. Anyone know anything about that?
