Under what circumstances will health insurance cover dental surgery? Will it ever? I went to the dentist yesterday and found out that I have to have my wisdom teeth surgically removed. Two of them are impacted and hurt like heck. The dentist said that an oral surgeon will have to cut into my jaw to get one of them out. I also have 2 other teeth that the fillings came out of and the teeth broke off. They only have the roots left, so they have to be surgically removed as well. I have health insurance, but not dental insurance. The dental assistant said that I might be able to get my health insurance to cover it since it is surgical. Is she right?

You can talk to an agent, I think they will describe what kind of product is suitable for you. http://www.gogo168.net Health Insurance

Don't listen to that dental assistant....If you have any queries, you should be calling your health insurance agent regarding the coverage... It depends on the coverage scheme that you signed up with...

I guess the first question is what country do you live in. The second is what kind of health insurance do you have. If you are in Canada get back to me and I may be able to help

It completely depends on the insurance. Mine for instance will not cover anythign oral unless my doctor referrs me to a dentist. Then the chain is medical and not oral. Call your benefits administrator and they can tell you whether or not your insurance will cover it.

It completely depends on the insurance. When I had mine removed my insurance covered almost all of it. Then my husband had to have his done and his insurance (this was before we were married, when we still had seperate insurance) covered NOTHING. So call ahead and check into everything. Make sure you have all the paperwork necessary as well! Such as referrals and such. Insurance can be such a pain!

I would call the insurance company directly. Tell them what is happening and ask if it is covered. That way you will know, in no uncertain terms, where you stand. If it is not covered, I suggest calling the surgeon and asking about a payment plan if you are unable to pay in full up front. Often they are understanding and will work with you. Tooth pain is not something you can ignore. It is crippling, so talk to the surgeon and see what they can do to help you so you can get it taken care of.

Hello there. Usually health insurance will have a list of covered surgeries and exclusions in the contract. Perhaps you want to read up your health insurance contract to see if it's covered. There are many different types of health insurance. Some are more comprehensive and some less. I am not sure which type is yours. However, if they do cover Dental expenses, it's usually only for accidental. For example, a person falls down, breaks his teeth and needs to operate his jaws. Under this situation, the health insurance will provide coverage. I would suggest you to approach your insurance agent or read up your health insurance contract for more information.
