Have you ever heard of this disorder? Do you know anyone that has it? I have been severly abused during my childhood and have recently been diagnosed with it. I'm in therapy to deal with it and am wondering if anyone else has experienced this, knows someone with it, or a loved one with it.

Yes, I've heard of DID and have a friend who has it...for the same reason as you. My heart goes out to both of you for what you've been through and I wish you luck with your therapy.

Thank you for responding. I'm glad that there are people out there that know about it. I didn't know about it prior to my diagnoses. I do therapy 3 times a week. It is rough some days with it and other days it feels like a breeze. Your friend is lucky to have you in their life.

When I was real young, I would lose time when something traumatic happened. Then I would come to, as from a dream and be in a class room where I would be responsible for all this work that was in front of me that I had never seen before. I made a decision then that no matter what happened, I would stay with it and suffer through it. Now, I have different personality colorings and I'm aware of all of them. Some of the personalities I enjoy more than others. The one I love best, is my inner child that is enjoying her second chance at having a happy childhood by my having a second childhood at times that are appropriate. I'm on medication, that took years to find the right combination, that works for me personally. Keep up the good work on your repairs. Remember we're not responsible for the damage that was done us. Although, we are responsible for the repairs.

Thanks for responding. I am not on medication. They say that I don't need it. Also was told that medication doesn't control the DID. So I'm just doing what I need to to get past it.

I just did my thesis for psychology last summer on DID. I had read in my information that DID and panic attacks go hand in hand. If you would like let me know and I will send you a copy of the paper I wrote, it goes into great detail of how to treat and cope with this.
