Own your own home or mobile home? I have saved several hundred dollars every year but heating with firewood. I bought a wood stove from a garage sell 5 years ago and Im so glad I did. I was heating with propane before. Spent about $400.00 a year. Now that oil has went sky high I would hate to see what it would cost now. I sell firewood for a stack 4'x16' 100.00. Higher in the city. Wood heat is so much warmer and safer than gas. I converted our cook range to electricity so the electric company knows we are total electric-cheaper rate. Stop complaining and buy a wood stove. Save the bucks for things you need.

I live in a mobile home, and when it starts getting cold, the gas prices do go up tremendosly. We can't put a wood stove in this home, but there are other ways to save. What my husband and I do is only turn on the heater when it's actually very cold, then turn it off before bed. But the best thing about living here, is that it hardly get's cold at all. Still the prices do go up higher than normal.

the intereseting thing is that in my country it is the opposite. i live on the equator so it is hot all yaer round.
rather it is cooling our homes that is killing finances. air-conditioning to take the heat away costs much more than fans.
there is currently a campaign in my country to encourage citizens to save electricity and use fans more. the air is also very humid so sometimes fans don't do the trick. nothing quite so comforting as walking into an air-conditioned room or working in one.
